Does anyone know of companies that sell hitches that do not require rear bumper modifications? I have a 2015 JGC laredo and the OEM hitches have the bumpers modified to come out the middle. Any that does not require a bumper mod or new rear bumper?
Yes, the OEM hitch receiver requires modification of the bumper skin, but it results in a clean, integrated function and look. Third party hitch receivers go below the bumper, making them lower to the ground which many folks don't prefer if they happen to leave the road with any frequency. You're also limited to 3500 lbs max towing with a third party hitch receiver. Rumor has it that Jeep is more generous with the OEM hitch, even if you don't have factory towing, boosting it to a 5K limit, although I haven't found proof on that. (Factory tow option gives you 6200 lbs limit for the 3.6 V6 and 7200 for the V8 & EcoDiesel, respectively with 4x4)
I would really consider the OEM hitch. More capacity, and definitely looks better. It's not a difficult install at all. Took me about 2 hours and looks like it came with it.
The OEM Hitch install is pretty straight forward and very easy to do, did mine in about 2 hours from start to finish. If you have a buddy help you out, probably do it in little over an hour.
