2015 removing tail lights and VHT nightshade

so im planning to use VHT nightshade on my tail lights. i know how to take out the outside portion of the tail light but not sure about the lift gate portion. i know there are screws on the side but do i have to pop out the tailgate liner to take them off? or can i just use the night shade with the lights on my car?

Why the **** would you use that garbage on your lights. Go to a tint shop and get them done with Laminx optical charcoal or order the Laminx kit yourself and do it. Nightshades is garbage especially if you lay uneven coats and not removable.

To get them out you need remove the tailgate plastic buy popping it off its clips carefully but with some force. Disconnect / unclip the connectors going to the the lights in the tail gate that light up the cargo area. Then use a socket wrench to unscrew the two nuts holding on each inner tail lamp. Remove the bulb connectors too so you can get it out.

And look at my build thread for pics of how a professionally done tail light tint looks. And it's totally reversible.

If you can change your order to charcoal it's darker and looks better

Pretty sure the shop that did mine used Nightshade or something similar and then did a clear coat over it and I think they look noticeably better than film Lamin-X does upon close inspection. From afar, they appear the same. And granted, most examples of Nightshade use look terrible, so I could see why you'd think it's garbage.

*I also tried to get any local tint shops to do the Lamin-X for me (prior to me trying on my own and failing anyway) and no one would bite.

Old pics from when it was first done last year:

It's not that you can't get it to look good it's that you just ruined your lights with something that in most states won't pass inspection. I would never use the stuff again based on that fact alone.

I hear you, but "ruined" is pretty subjective if I'm not planning to remove it and like the way it came out. If I had to worry about inspections here, I'd stay away from it too though.
