A pillar grab handles

So, I saw an older JGC yesterday at my local fuelling station. I note it had a grab handle mounted on the A pillar. My 2015 has a handle mounted more or less centre to the door.
Now I am a tall guy and never use these things, but my other half is considerably shorter @ 5'2" and uses often to climb in. Our old 2003 Liberty had a grab handle mounted to A pillar and so she is missing this feature.
So I am womdering:
- why did Jeep move this handle to where it is? For fun I tried it out, and it is awkward to use.
- does anyone know of any product aftermarket that could be mounted to A pillar and still
look reasonably good? I've been searching around but no luck so far.
Suggestions welcome.

Re: A pillar grab handles

Could it be because of the airbag?

Agree. Airbag. Wouldn't want a grab handle smashing my face if the bag goes off 😟

Re: A pillar grab handles

Good point guys and likely the reason for the change.
I did run across one site that had grab handles that somehow fastened to the sunvisor mounts.
Might be a little more user friendly than the current setup.

Re: A pillar grab handles

That was one of the first things i noticed on the WK2 chassis. I had one in my '08 WK and used it quite often.
