A potential Altitude/High Altitude rack solution

Came across this in my search for a rack that would potentially be compatible with the decorative black rails that came with our High Altitude Grand Cherokee:

https://www.etrailer.com/tv-review-r...rva126b-2.aspx

Took the video down to our local rack specialist who contacted a rep at Rhino Racks. The rep didn't recommend this setup. Has anybody tried this? Looks similar to the Whispbar setup as far as attaching directly to the decorative rails.

Still leaning towards just changing out the rails for functional ones, but wanting to know all available options.

A potential Altitude/High Altitude rack solution

If I was in the market for a set of racks id give those a try. They look fairly sturdy and the price ain't bad either.

I have the Rhino Rack Vortex bars and they are phenomenal. I have the chrome rails though. They bolt right in to the factory bolts. I can't see why you couldn't do it into the decorative black ones.

If you take off the decorative black rails you will find that they don't have much structural integrity. I wouldn't trust them to carry much weight or wind force.
If you found a way to fill the hollow of them to improve the integrity then maybe.

The structural integrity of the decorative rails is my biggest concern in mounting something directly to them....afraid they'd be easily compromised compared to the usual chrome rails. That being said, still curious if somebody has had success with it.

The OE roof rails with the chrome bars do fit. They aren't very expensive so there is no point in reinventing the wheel. Your dealer can install them for you at minimal cost if needed. If you want beefier cross bars then there are many to choose from.
