Ablaze Grille Installed

Hi, I'm new to the forum, just posted an intro in the new member section, and I also just finished installing an Ablaze Grille.

I don't have pics at this time, but I can post some if anyone is interested. I ordered the wire mesh chrome. They look outstanding. The quality is superb.

But now the bad: The instructions suck! You basically have to figure it out for yourself. And there is no way to install these grilles without removing your bumper. That said, it is not as bad as it may sound. I'd say if you have enough mechanical ability to install an aftermarket intake system, then you won't have much trouble installing these grilles. Just be sure to have a screw gun, some short screws (1/2"-1"), and some washers handy. If you like working with your hands, it'll be an hour to an hour and a half of quality time for you.

Bottom Line: Well worth the money and time spent installing.

Re: Ablaze Grille Installed

MOFSTEEL, mine is a bit different. What you posted I think they call diamond mesh. A bit more aggressive/sporty looking than the wire mesh I installed.

Anyways, if anyone has questions about the installation I'd be happy to help out.

Re: Ablaze Grille Installed

Brilliant Black, Did you have to take off the bumper cover for the chrome inserts around your fog lights? I like your grille are you still happy with it? No fading or anything? Did you get it directly from Ablaze? Oh yeah one last thing. My Jeep is a 13 what year is yours?

Thanks

Re: Ablaze Grille Installed

Hi Tim,

To get those chrome bezels around the fog lights, all you do is pop out the factory black one with a narrow flathead screwdriver, and then snap the new ones in.

As for the grill, I did buy it directly from ablaze. It still looks good, but the lower grill started to rust in the winter due to road salt. I polished it up with some P21S metal polish and the rust cleaned right up - you'd never know it was there. So almost a year since I've put the grill on and its holding up pretty well.

My Jeep is a 2011.

If you do get the ablaze grill, I think you'll be happy with it, but the installation will be pretty tricky if you're not a very handy person.

Re: Ablaze Grille Installed

Almost forgot. Before you use the screwdriver to pop out the black factory fog light bezels, put some masking tape on the paint surrounding the foglight so the screwdriver doesn't scratch it. I slapped two or three layers of tape on just to be safe.

Hi BB,

I just ordered the wire mesh. I have a couple of questions for you. Do the black inserts in the grille come out or is wire mesh over top of that? Also on the bottom I assume the wire mesh goes over the black piece on the bumper cover not in place of it?

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Ablaze Grille Installed

Its been awhile since I installed it, and I've since sold my Jeep, but I remember some of the installation process.

The black inserts need to come out. Your grill will need to be installed where those inserts were. I think i cut them out with a dremel.

As for the lower grill, it does install over the black plastic. Its a pain in the butt.

The ablaze grille is not a simple overlay. You will need to remove your entire front bumper. You'll pop the silver (or paint colored, depending on model year) grill panel off, cut those black inserts out, and lay the grill in behind the silver grill panel. I think I zip-tied the ablaze grill to that grill panel.

Thats all I can remember at this point. If I still had the Jeep I'd be able to go look at it to refresh my memory, but I'm afraid I sold it about a year ago......hope this helps you somewhat.
