Adding reverse lighting using trailer harness?

I am looking to add some lighting to the rear of the GC to help with night time visibility. Even with the back up camera, it is often hard to see exactly where the trailer coupler is as I'm hooking up at night (black hitch, black coupler). Unfortunately, night is when I'm usually doing it.
Anyway, my plan is to add a couple 3/4" LED lights to the rear air dam. Fairly simple installation. I was figuring the wiring out and a relay from the reverse circuit...... then I thought about simply wiring them into the trailer harness. Since it has a reverse circuit on the round connector, can't I just use that to power the lights? The max power draw will be around 10 watts (less than 1 amp) and I can solder the power and ground right there at the trailer wiring. No relay, no fuss.
Thing is, I can't find a wiring diagram or spec that tells me how much current the reverse circuit on the GC will handle.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Adding reverse lighting using trailer harness?

You'll be totally fine with a few LED's hooked up to the trailer harness. Lots of people have done this with other vehicles.

Re: Adding reverse lighting using trailer harness?

With that low of a draw you should be perfectly fine. If you think about it, a standard trailer with halogen or LED bulbs (boat trailer, cargo, car hauler, etc...) would draw a lot more than two small LED lights only in use for reverse.

Post some pics when your done!
