Aftermarket LED tail lights - please show interest

I sent emails out to a few aftermarket LED tail light manufacturers shortly after purchasing my GC, but all the replies were the same: "Nothing at this time."

So just a couple days ago I sent a note to both Spyder Auto (Spyder Auto - Projector Headlights,Tail Lights,Crystal Headlights,Fog Lights,Brake Lights,Accessories) and Anzo USA (ANZO USA | Don).

I stated that the WK2 has been out for 2.5 years now and has been setting sales records, so there are plenty of them on the road and noted how a lot people on these forums are still looking for a LED tail light solution.

I actually got a reply from Spyder Auto:
We may be in the process of producing one eventually, but there is no word yet for this light specifically. We just came out with a full LED tail light for the JK chassis Wranglers, so I don't see why we wouldn't consider the newer Wk2 chassis GC's in the near future. Please check back periodically as this may change.

So if you are like me and would like some nice LED tail lights, visit the Spyder Auto site (and Anzo) and use the "Contact Us" form to let them know we want LED tail lights. I figure if more of us contact them, they will see that there is definite interest and just may do it.

Thanks!

Tail light solutions are just LED bulbs they sell you. These would be actual replacement assemblies with LEDs all in them.

I want these very badly, this is my #1 desire for my Overland. I emailed them, hopefully they'll have something soon.

If not, I may end up having to make my own, which takes FOREVER.

EDIT: Got a reply, they said they were currently making it and it'd be out in 4-6 months

I would like a set of LED tailight that look OEM most of these aftermarket companies make light that are not to my liking style wise and quality wise.

I am hoping that we can retro fit the 14 lights.

I have looked at my current taillight several time and have considered cutting them open with a hot knife so I can install my own LED but the way the reflector is installed does not give me that option.

I hope someone comes to market soon with a tasteful option, Grand Cherokees always do well in the used car market and that is when the modding really gets going

I'd be interested in some LED tails, as long as they looked OEM / clean.

Something similar to the Audi S4 tails which are completely red.... don't want any "clear" areas or anything altezza looking.
Same here. I love aftermarket LED assemblies, as long as they look OEM and not ricey. I'm really kinda surprised no one has made any to market yet. I had some Eagle Eye (?) assemblies, and they looked exactly like OEM but leaked/attracted a little bit of moisture in the reverse light sections.

Thats a bummer because I wanted LED brake lights OH well I guess it is back to scheming on how to get LEDs into the current housings

That's great news, hopefully it will be released sooner than 4-6 months.

In other news, I was browsing ebay on my flight today (because that is one of the few things Delta gives you without charging you for super slow internet), and they sell the LED flex tubes on ebay now. These are basically what you see for a lot of LED running lights, where there's just a solid tube lit u by LEDs inside it. They're not super expensive either, one could get enough tubing to do a full set of taillights for like $15-20. The actual LEDs to do the brake lights are about the same price as well.

Truthfully, the largest investment into making custom LED taillights would be the taillights themselves to work on.

Any links to the leds you are mentioning?

I was thinking of doing the opposite of the 14's by keeping the incandesant running/taillights, then put some flexible LED strip in the Diffuser bars that are up against the taillights lenses.

Those sections would look trick if it had additional lighting.
I added the RFUK because I noticed that the brake lights sometimes get washed out by daylight and I didn't want any smucks too busy texting to kiss my rear bumper.

I think this section is just begging for some instense LED brake lights in there.

I would increase safety by adding functioning brake lights to the tailgate light housings by tapping the CHMSL signal. So the functions for this section would be (incandesant taillight and LED brake lights)

The light housings on the body function would be (incandesant taillights and LED Turnsignal and brake lights.

If I could acheive that I would Turn my RFUK into true rear foglights.

I was thinking of using some of these. I am currently using the one inch amber strip in the clear tube from custom dynamics as front sidemarkers in my European headlights and they are surely visible even in direct sunlight.

i emailed both companys but havent heard anything back yet. i think it would be BA if they made some sweet black headlights similar to some of the older jeep ones they have on their site now.

Alas, nothing yet.
I've emailed Spyder again about a month ago, and still no acknowledgement of even working on tail lights for the GC.

If you haven't already (or if it's been awhile), drop them another email/comment from their web site. I figure if we keep bugging them, maybe they will make them....

I thought for sure that DEPO would have made one. They made the awesome set I had on my Daytona pu. ( I had a matching third brake light piece too )

I saw a 2010 with a very nice led setup, I wish I could have asked him where he got them ... If they're available for them, they should be for the wk2 as well. ??????????

I'm patiently awaiting info.

Apparently a few small companies are importing tail lights to the US when there is a vehicle that is also available overseas.

Wish they had a US office...
Anyone care to try persuading them to make some for us?

I'm surprised Jeep doesn't fit them OEM, maybe the '15 will have something that can retro.

The Cherokee is all-LED...why they did that, and not the WK2, I have no idea.

It would also be nice if the Cherokee's *reflector* fog lamps would retro into a WK2...

Spyder's reply

Unfortunately at the moment we do not offer headlights or tail lights for
your vehicle. We do offer accessories such as chrome covers and side step
bars. I would advise you to check back periodically for any new updates for
your vehicle.

I haven't seen anything... :(

At this point the best option appears to be the V-LEDs V3 Triton system which replaces the bulb.

Their newest system has a load resistor built in to prevent the 'fast flash' issue.

I've replaced my rear main bulbs with 3157 Krypton bulbs which seem to be a little brighter than a normal 3157... For now.

V3 Triton system for both the rear mains and the front blinkers are on my 'wish list'.
