Aftermarket Runninng boards?

Hey Guys... My wife is 5 foot and looking to get running boards. Shes not settled on the Mopar Nerf bars (475 +tax). Shes looking for more a running board. I have a friend in parts that said the Jeep molded with chrome running boards (mopar# 82212685) aren't in yet and will run me around 530 +tax. My wife found these online and I wanted to know if anyone knew anything about these...

Maybe I am looking at it wrong, but it looks like you step into them. I'd trip getting out. Also I do not see drain holes.

Looks like they are raised in the back and lip-less in the front, not a "well".

Re: Aftermarket Runninng boards?

I am not familiar with these particular running boards, but have purchased items from Sportwing in the past and they have quality products. Personally, if you need running boards for stepping in and out of the GC, your wife should find this design more functional than the tubular ones. I find the tubular step bars are more for looks than actually stepping on. The Sportwing boards look very similar to the factory ones I had on my Suburbans and Tahoes in the past and they worked quite well for stepping in and out. Best luck.

Re: Aftermarket Runninng boards?

They appear to be very functional, but quite the eyesore. The Mopar Steps looks nice, but aren't very functional (unless you're a child with tiny feet). Take your pick. I really wish Mopar made some molded, integrated boards like I had on my Aspen:

Re: Aftermarket Runninng boards?

I'd like to see running board that looks like BMW X5's from Mopar.

I personally think the eBay ones are an eyesore also and love the look of the mopar steps. According to the parts catalog they should have a set of molded/chrome running boards. Part# 82212685

Re: Aftermarket Runninng boards?

Moparsupercenter.com says the Mopar ones won't be available until December 2012, I keep checking to see if this changes. So far No Luck.

Re: Aftermarket Runninng boards?

To bad Amp Research won't build Power Boards for the Jeep. I called them and they said they have no plans.

Re: Aftermarket Runninng boards?

Jeep really needs an integrated solution. I tried adding some after-market bars and they didn't fit all that great. They also flexed a bit when standing on them. I'm not sure if you could ever get a solid fit with bars that you bolt on and are not custom made specifically for the vehicle.

I'm pretty disappointed with Chrysler for not including running boards. The GC is a tall vehicle and side steps are needed for kids and grandparents.

Re: Aftermarket Runninng boards?

^ Mopar does have "Side Steps/Nerf Bars". However, the actual step pad is very narrow. They do look nice, and fit perfect. They have 3 brackets, and don't flex or budge under weight. I've stood on the front front tip to clean the windshield, and they are solid. Most of the aftermarket ones I've seen for the WK2 only have 2 brackets. For an actual "Step" I'd feel that running boards would be much safer.

Re: Aftermarket Runninng boards?

I have aftermarket tube steps. They're OK but except that the rubber molded pads are centered for the visual appearance and are not as functioanl for actually getting into the GC. I'm thinking about switching over to the factory bars.
