Altitude roof rack

Anyone know the best way to go about pulling those pointless black rails off my '12 altitude. Would another set have to be pre drilled or is it as easy as replacing. Really not trying to drop 600 on a thule roof rack that mounts to the door jams. Any suggestions?

Re: Altitude roof rack

I ran into similar questions and I'm sure I ran across a thread replacing the vanity rails with functional rails... However I went the route of Yakima whispbar roof rack. I believe there is a thread on that too. You don't really have to replace the vanity rails, just mount the adapters right to it. I have been on freeway trips with a fully loaded storage box with no problems.

If you can't successfully search for this info and you're interested in the whispbar I can post photos (it's not inexpensive though).

Altitude roof rack

Those whispbars are really nice but still pricey.
