And another melted Putco...options?

Alright so i ordered a pair thinking that since they are made with quality they could withstand the heat on my location, guess i was wrong, very wrong.

I only took a day and a half for this baby to melt like that and thank God it did not damage the wiring or anything.
To be fair it does get very hot here so my question is: is there another LED Day time running light that will withstand the heat here. It should be made from an all metal housing with no plastic, maybe even ceramic

any options?

Much appreciated.

Re: And another melted Putco...options?

Try www.ijdmtoy.com I bought some bulbs from them that they seems to be quality.

I even put them into a Bixenon WK2 test light housing powered on for two continious 14 hour cycles and each time the bulb was not hot enough to burn so may be you just need to switch brands.

No sign of excessive heat or anything

Keep the OE ones until they need replacing.

I think the issue here is that this is a Putco Neutron bulb. The LED's face to front and are behind the Jeep logo in the DRL'S and I have seen other reports of these melting here on JG.
I and others have had success with the Putco Nova bulb which does not have the concentration of LED's at the front.
Of course there might be a manufacturing variability issue with LED's as well. If well made without high resistance joints I would not expect them to heat up.

Re: And another melted Putco...options?

Instead of replacing the DRL with an LED bulb, I purchased a halo kit from oracle and wired it to replace the DRL bulb which I removed completely. I have pictures of what it looks like in one of my other posts.

I can confirm the above.

My 360 Novas have been installed and are fuctioning well for over a year now as DRL.

The Neutrons have also been great as Main Reverse LED's over the same duration.

Re: And another melted Putco...options?

See here for some discussion on 3157 LED's and links to the Novas. They do have a plastic base. The Putco Premium globes that I tried unsuccessfully also had plastic ...note did not melt just failed on the dimmer setting on one.

White LED DRLs
