Hey guys, couple days ago i bought a used grille form ebay and wanted to try to take the chrome off of it. I had already tried a few chemical methods, called local sand blasters and all basically said they were afraid the blaster would damage the plastic and couldn't do it.
Another forum I was reading suggested adding heat and peeling the chrome/alluminum covering back. This DID work BUT I had a lot of warping and bubbling which I thought "meh I can sand it down later and/or bondo it back up. No biggie". Wrong. Today I decided to switch to sanding and when I added a little pressure to dig in, the soft spot cracked in half. Crap!
So my question here is if I go with one of these eBay black painted grilles, will this be easier to get the paint off? If so, does regular paint stripper work or should i just take this to an auto body place and have them strip it?
