any experience with thule alpine or yakima lopro

Anyone using either a thule sonic alpine or yakiima lopro on a GC? They would not fit as far as the fit guide goes, but I'm wondering how bad it is, thule said I could try but there is no guarantee it will fit...

I could go with one of the thule sonic XL but I really wanted a low profile since I will be only carrying skis... I need something for up to 185cm skis.

any other recommendation?

Let me know what you've got. I'm in the same boat today. Trying to decide what to get.

I need to carry skis. Would like to get Thule Sonic L but according to their website it will only carry skis up to 155cm. Next size up is XL but not sure if that will actually fit.

Any photos of your setup would be appreciated.

I think i'm gonna go with the force xl, thule says the sonic xl will work but it just looks gigantic to me, the force is about 6 or 5 inches shorter, there is a picture of a gc and a force xl in another thread search for "thule cargo box"

I'm actually going to REI this weekend and will try sonic L. Will take my skis with me to check it out.

Kind of hard for me to imagine not being able to fit 65" long skis in a box that is 74 " long according to website. Actually think they will fit in the middle as there is more space due to wedge In front.

it mught work for you, those are pretty short skis. one thing to notice is the dual side mechanism to open/close the box which might get in the way, also the boxes are pretty oddly shaped and I think the external dimensions are much longer than the internal clearance. let us know how it goes... unfortunately I need to carry fully rockered 183cm skis... can really get away with anything less than the xl

Re: any experience with thule alpine or yakima lopro

I checked out a used Yakima LoPro . Nice box but I don't think it will work on a 2014 GC. I took a measurement from the most forward crossbar to the tailgate and have about 48". The measurement of the forward attachment on the LoPro to the end of the box is 56", You can fudge a couple inches because of the angle of the tailgate spoiler, but that will only gain a couple inches. You will not be able to fully open that tailgate. If anyone can dispute this, I would like to know. The only way around it would be to modify the slot the forward attachments are in and extend it so you get more forward movement of the box. need to call yakima

as per the yakima fit guide it wont't fit without interference... think it has to do with how much you can move the attachement points... I gave up the low profile since none is supposed to fit

there are a few pictures of mine with a sonic xl on another topic, take a look!
