Re: Any experiences with Console Vaults?

Just got mine today. Minus ZERO correspondence from Console Vault from the time I ordered, to the time it arrived, I am happy. Five minute installation, and I got the four number, tumbler lock which was very easy to set. Seems like a good product

Re: Any experiences with Console Vaults?

Question for those of you with the Console Vault installed: can you keep the "upper tray" in the center console installed or do you have to remove it? I'm talking about the one at the top that can be lifted out of the way when you open the lid.

The top tray stays. The Console Vault is great and roomy, I usually have both a full size and commander size 1911 stored in it with no problem. Mine has the 4 number tumbler lock.

Re: Any experiences with Console Vaults?

I'm thinking of getting one of these. I tried Tuffy but they don't take anything. I had a Tuffy in my Rubicon and used to leave cash and CC's with no worry. Is there any place cheaper than Console Vault's website??

I got a tip from member TWP75 and bought mine from gunsafes.com. Little bit cheaper but I haven't compared them recently (bought mine around June). They had a 3% off online coupon last year so you might do a quick web-search and see if it's still active but that's not really an earth-shattering discount either way.

It's a solid unit though and worth the investment.

Honestly, I have the radio on or am talking to someone 99% of the time so that may help but I haven't heard a sound.

Re: Any experiences with Console Vaults?

Just to be clear, this console vault is only secured to the vehicle by two self-tapping screws into the plastic side walls of the console, and these screws do not engage any metal?

The WK2 product page on their website indicates that the installation "secures to factory console bolts", but if any of those are present in the WK2 console then they aren't palpable. I watched a few of their installation videos for other models, but it would have been nice if they had published the installation instructions for this specific model.

Re: Any experiences with Console Vaults?

The console vault uses self-tapping screws and goes through the plastic in the glove compartment.

Keep in mind, 99% of the time the person breaking into your car is an opportunity thief. They are going to grab whats readily available and easy. They will try to open the safe or even try to pry it out. It wont move and they will leave it. This include valets who decide to do a quick glance around the vehicle for free floating goodies.

I wouldnt store the nuclear launch codes in it, but for your firearm or other small valuables it will be more than secure enough.

Re: Any experiences with Console Vaults?

Has anyone considered using the 'hidden' compartment under the driver seat?
