Any experiences with Console Vaults?

Hi, new to the forum...first post here.

Just got a 2015 Altitude in Maximum Steel yesterday, promptly put black Gorilla "system" wheel locks on last night, and promptly drove over a screw this evening. Getting it fixed first thing in the morning, but changing a flat wasn't part of my idea of enjoying my first 24 hours.

Anyway, I need something to lock up my CCW, AND have been looking at the Console Vault. Does anyone have one installed? I was kind of surprised to see how small the space in the center console is, and I'm wondering with the vault installed, is there really enough room for anything bigger than a pea shooter?

Thanks for the replies, sorry for the newbie error.

I did a search and only came up with 2 threads, though I only searched in the WK2 forum because I have a Grand Cherokee...and didn't see anyone talk specifically about how much space the console had after the installation. I'll search for Jason911's posts.

I've got one in mine and like it quite a bit. It works great for locking up phones and wallets when we're at the beach, but it takes some maneuvering to get my full size M&P9 in and out. There's enough room inside, but getting it through the opening is tricky. What are you carrying?

Yeah the 30S should be fine. I left my 19 in VA, otherwise I could tell you for sure, but the M&P is just barely too big so you might be good with either.

Can you provide some photos of your console vault installed? Including some of the interior shots of it?

Im assuming you lose access to the power source located in the center console because of the safe, correct?

Here's some pictures of the console vault installed. And with a full size Glock in it for comparison. It's a little tight getting the weapon in, but with a Glock 43 or Springfield XDS it wouldn't be an issue. View attachment 57569 View attachment 57570
Thanks a million...looking forward to tomorrow. I see there'll also be room for my dash cam when I don't leave it installed.

I got it today. FedEx comes early to my house, so I was able to go on and get it installed this afternoon. I can take a couple of pictures, but Mrleddy's pictures pretty much cover it...there's nothing I can show you that his pictures don't. I also second everything he said, except I didn't notice a rattle.

It's a solid, sturdy unit...I feel secure enough leaving my weapon, dash cam, and whatever else in it. You'd have to have a big crowbar to get into this thing, and the average opportunistic smash-and-grab offender doesn't have time (or tools with him) for that. If someone's that determined to get what's inside the vault without knowing for sure what's in it (if anything), he'll be taking your Jeep anyway.

I highly recommend it, especially if you carry a weapon and ever have to leave it behind at prohibited places (plenty of those here in Illinois). There were only a couple of restaurants I'd go to and have to leave it at home, but I'd be comfortable enough to take it and leave it in the vehicle now.

PM me if you want to know where I ordered it from, it was cheaper than from the Console Vault site, and there was a coupon code to get extra off. I ended up paying less with the 4-digit combination upgrade than I would have paid directly from them for the base model

Just got my Overland and my gun vault. Excited to get it all installed.

Has anyone installed the gunvault without using the two self drilling screws? I know they are there to secure the vault from being removed but im a little hesitant to create permanent damage to my brand new vehicle. Thoughts?

I used the screws, as did everyone else who got one, I'd imagine. If not, it's basically $200+ for show because anyone could lift the thing out with bare hands...and I doubt any criminal is going to see the thing and not at least pull on the handle to try it.

Pull on the handle and it moves, they'll figure "I'll take it with me and try to open it somewhere else."

I understand your concerns, but you've already spent good money on a good product - use it to its fullest potential and capability. You obviously wouldn't have spent the money on this product if you didn't have something(s) worth safeguarding when left in your vehicle - so don't skimp on the installation and make it that much easier for a thief to access whatever you store inside the console vault. The two screws that go in the sides of the vault aren't long enough to penetrate the console, so nothing is visible from the outside. I doubt there would be much damage visible on the inside once it's taken out after installation with the screws.

Fair statements all around. Thanks. For some reason I thought there was some sort of additional screws other than the two that are through the sides.

Im going to install her today, screws and all!

Finished installing the gunvault. That was much easier than I anticipated. Although those two little screws in the front were a pain in the ass. I ended up only getting one of the front two installed.

I have one in My overland with 4 tumbler combo lock and Love it. It fits fullsize 1911 and commander size 1911 at same time. Very well made and gives huge piece of mind when I need to leave gun in car.

Question for those of you with the Console Vault installed: can you keep the "upper tray" in the center console installed or do you have to remove it? I'm talking about the one at the top that can be lifted out of the way when you open the lid.

The top tray stays. The Console Vault is great and roomy, I usually have both a full size and commander size 1911 stored in it with no problem. Mine has the 4 number tumbler lock.

I got a tip from member TWP75 and bought mine from gunsafes.com. Little bit cheaper but I haven't compared them recently (bought mine around June). They had a 3% off online coupon last year so you might do a quick web-search and see if it's still active but that's not really an earth-shattering discount either way.

It's a solid unit though and worth the investment.
