Any solid "discount" D3S bulbs?

Hey, I'm not sold I spending $200 on a pair of D3S bulbs just yet... Are there any on ebay or amazon that are highly recommended? (FYI- I'm looking for a bit more white bulb. More like Lexus, BMW, Mercedes etc. I think my OEM HID is VERY yellow.)

Re: Any solid "discount" D3S bulbs?

Well first of all there is a good chance they are yellowish. Maybe your Jeep is brand new? Any vehicle equipped with HIDs that is new will take atleast a few hundred hours before the bulbs color shift. The other thing is that the other manufacturers you mentioned use the exact same bulbs that are in your Jeep. All manufacturers as far as I know use a variation of either Philips or Osram and they are ALL basically 4300K which is exactly what is in your Jeep. Now also keep in mind the bulbs in your Jeep are very high quality. If you go with some cheap bulb on ebay its a very low quality Chinese made bulb that wont have consistent color, may flicker, and certainly wont last. The only bulbs that I would personally consider removing my OEM bulbs for would be the Osram CBI bulb which will give you whiter look, but like you said you didn't want to do, its an expensive bulb.

Give yours some time, they will whiten up a little. To expedite the process drive with your HIDs on even in the day :-)

Very good point...I didn't realize the OEM bulbs were nice quality. Yeah...I probably shouldn't downgrade.

I'm in the same boat like op. Broken in or not, our your jeep hid headlight wont be as bright like the new mercedes, audi, lexus. I was reading that mercedes uses the CBI bulbs so it's probable the same with the others. I'm waiting for someone to post pictures with stock vs cbi on a jeep before I get my own.

I found a low cost aftermarket 6k D3S bulb set on Amazon, they were very highly rated on the Durango forum. I'll post details and pics when I get them later this week...

Re: Any solid "discount" D3S bulbs?

There is a D3S bulb from what seems to be a reputable site for $70 that's highly rated on the hid forums and they claim it's the best u can get to a osram cbi bulb without the price. It's called xb35 5500k. I'm thinking of getting that because it's only $70 for the pair but then again I may treat myself and get the Osram for $169.

I can't vouch for the Morimoto D3S bulbs but had 3 sets of Morimoto HID retrofit kit on my 14 Ram 1500 running the xb55 ballasts (50watt), and the colors were spot on across all 6 bulbs and never had a inkling of problems in the year I had the truck.

Interesting. I have a 2015 Audi S4, and a 2014 GC Summit, both had stock HIDs, and my Summit HIDs actually provide much better lighting than my Audi does. So I don't know where your statement is coming from.

I actually bought a set of 6000k for the color change and am more than happy with them. Great color, great visibility:

Re: Any solid "discount" D3S bulbs?

Just installed osram 5000k bulbs tonight. Pass side was a tighter fit, after removing the PCM links I was able to scrape my knuckles up just enough to change it out. The drivers side was easy with the box removed.

Yellow tint is immediately gone. Awaiting them to break in for full effect.

Too bad DDM doesn't have that size yet. They're prices are usually very reasonable for replacement bulbs.
