Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

I was wondering if they were going to have a holiday special ? Like free shipping / Discount

It might bring a few more people to pull the trigger on buying .. IMO

I measured mine at 36 inches, and I could probably push the rear bar back 2 or 2.5 inches, so potentially 38 or so.

Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

Thanks, jcarone. Now I know I'm going to order the rails and crossbars! Just need more spread than the factory bars provide.

wt4clyj, as far as installing the roof rack system, according to the website everything should go on and bolt together real easy, with just a few basic tools. I'm sure the kit will come with adequate instructions.

Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

I've been eyeing the adventure rack and rails as well. Looks like you now have to get their new roof rails to replace the stock rails, whereas the pics shown from jcarone and waxace retained the stock rails. Am I seeing that correctly?

Here's the only pic (from their site) that shows the new rails that replace the stock rails. I wonder if they have some rubber coating or rubber feet to keep the flat steel from rubbing against the roof/body of the Jeep.

Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

OK. Nevermind. I think I overlooked quite a few things. They have their Grand Cherokee and new Grand Cherokee stuff all mixed up, which caused me to get it all mixed up. Those rails that I posted are for a WK.

I think I actually liked the idea of replacing the stock rails. Otherwise it kinda looks like rails on top of rails. I still am interested though.

Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

It looks like the adventure rack is a complete unit that you bolt up to the side rails, so you would need to remove the original crossbars, if you purchased them initially.

I just ordered the rails and crossbars. They indicated that they had a set in production already, so hope to have it in a couple of weeks. I'll pass along my impressions when I install it.

UPDATE: I received the rails and crossbars yesterday (5/22) and installed them today. Pretty straightforward, although instructions could be a bit clearer regarding removing the factory rails, and then the rails from the plastic housings, in order to slide the RR rails into the slots before attaching everything back to the roof. But its easy enough to figure out, just takes a bit of time as with any first-time project. It's certainly one very sturdy set-up! I set my crossbars 37" apart to fit a fiberglass roof box I have, but I think the spread could go to 39," or possibly even to 40" if necessary.

Has anyone tried their rock rail/superslider set-up yet? They're just over half the price of the factory sliders, and apparently MUCH easier to install. They also have a step area in the rear, primarily for access to the roof rack, which the factory units do not. I may order them in the future, but it would be good to hear comments from anyone who has installed them.

Yes it is. I think it says so on their site. And 2-3 weeks is nothing. With my old ride, we had to wait several months for custom bumpers and sliders.

Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

finally got the rack, installed everything went together pretty easy, and sturdy... I decided to attach the rails without using the oem rail slots.... mistake!!!! After I installed everything and ensured was sturdy I put my uniform bag on top and drove 1100 miles.

so... the rack is pretty strong, in fact if i would have kept the oem slots it wouldnt have shifted or moved the sheet metal on the roof. Once I find a fabricator in the local area I'm going to make some alterations to extend the rack capabilities and mount more securely.

Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

Any of you guys know how to install the lights? I don't really like the idea of drilling a hole in the roof for the cables.

Thanks.
