I am in Park City, Utah - they salt our roads constantly - always an issue with salt rusting stuff out - but still haven't seen any signs or issues on mine.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Sounds like it's hit or miss with the paint on RRO stuff. I guess i'll be doing some painting just to be safe

Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

I was wondering if someone who has the rails / crossbars installed can comment on / measure the distance between the rear cross bar and the rear hatch when it is open?

Interested in this rack system, but have a Thule Sonic XL roof box, and it needs to have at least 20 inches between rear bar and hatch when it is open for clearance.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

I have the rails and cross bars on order from them just waiting for them to arrive. The next step for us is buying a roof box for it. I would like to know what others are running and what works with the RRO bars.

Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

I happened across an image of your JGC with the RRO roof racks with the Yakima fairing unit on it. The Jeep looks sweet BTW. My question to you is, do you have a sunroof? If so does the fairing spacers just rest on it? And I want to confirm that the size you have is the 44" fairing. Ive got the RRO racks ordered and on the way but am worried about the road noise hence the fairing question. Here's what I got currently.

2012 Altitude Black RRO level kit, 275/55r20 Cooper Discoverer HT/plus, painted calipers and plastidip trim & badges.

Anyways, thanks for your feedback.

Re: Anybody tried the Rocky Road Roof Rack???

I have the RR rack with 2 cross bars and really dig the look. So far the only thing attached to them has been my surf board pads and wind noise hasnt been THAT bad. With the sunroof shade closed its not really noticeable.

Issues I have with it is that once the cross bars are mounted its extremely tedious to adjust forward and back as the support along the rails gets in the way. The roof bubble I borrowed from my parents wouldnt attach with its pre drilled holes. Additionally I've found it a small pain to work with tubular cross bars. I plan on chatting with RR to see which basket/bubbles they've seen success with.

As for dealing with RR themselves, when the kit was shipped one of the cross bars was too long. I took a saw to it as I didnt really feel like waiting for a new one to be procured. They offered me a credit to my next order. Forget how much it is but it will likely cover shipping or something like that.

Starting to wish I picked up the adventure rack as my winter spare is definitely too big for the trunk and It would have been easier to just have the fabricated attachment rather than jerry-rig it.

Hope that helps!

ALSO, I plasti-dip sprayed anyhting that wasnt already powder coated. Really not looking to see rust drips once the winter rolls around and its salt & water everywhere.
