Transverse/lower power applications such as the Rolls-Royce Ghost or BMW X5 both since 2010?

2011 on the X5, and the Ghost isn't exactly the sort of vehicle you'll see a lot of miles on. I don't think anyone would be worried about it working right immediately, it's after 50k miles of towing + v8 + offroading, etc.

X5 MY2011 was launched in 2010. Just saying that perhaps you should check your facts before trying to correct other people's statements.

Just two examples but there are more transverse/lower power applications out there using XF's tranny for a couple years.

That's fine, but it's an apples to oranges sort of comparison. The 4L60E was used for a very long time in a lot of GM vehicles without issue, but when used in the TBSS was a consistent point of failure.

Now I'm not saying that the XF transmission is going to be a terrible transmission, just that not getting to be the guinea pig for it doesn't make me lose sleep at night over my purchase decision.

And truth be told, unless Chrysler intends to adjust its transmission programming and torque management significantly to take advantage of the new transmissions, I'd rather have less gears.

I was a little surprised by some of the reactions here when I read the list of changes.

Trade in your JGC because the new one has power folding mirrors?!?

What am I missing here?

My reaction is that the mid-cycle refresh is coming ahead of schedule but in return for that the "refresh" appears very minor. Headlights and mirrors are bolt-on items. The fascia change will likely be barely noticeable. The most exciting thing I read is the updated Nav and vehicle electronics. The transmission.... well I'll believe it when I see it.

I generally try and keep a car for 5 years or so unless there is a good reason to change. I'll be "jealous" that there will be newer Jeeps on the road but not to the point that I'm going to make my salesman wealthier so I can trade into the same car with better headlamps.
