Ordered my Overland yesterday and want to be ready for it when it arrives in a few months. Since this is the first car I have ever bought new I want to make sure it has a clear bra day one!!
Having a clear bra installed is very expensive so I want to try something different, but I also want it done right.
My friend recommended this company and has used their products on his Saab and also his C6 Z06 Corvette. He did both installs himself and said it was relatively easy and turned out just like as if it was done by a professional.
When I searched for the 2011 Grand Cherokee I was amazed to see they have model specific kits and a HUGE variety of kits. You could literally cover the entire truck with what they sell lol.
What do you guys think? This link should bring you to all the kits for a 2011 Overland.
Looks like they have a deal going now where you get the install kit, door edge gaurd protectors, door handle cup kit, and priority shipping. I priced out the standard hoof/fender kit, front bumper, and headlights came out to be $264 plus shipping. Seems reasonable when I know it could cost $600+ to get that done professionally.
That's why some companies are covering the entire hood so that there isn't a seam. That's what they did on my wife's new M3 and it has already proved its worth.
I'd never try the install myself though. I'm just not detail-oriented enough to acheive the results that a pro gets with the material.
Well I dont know my friend bought multiple kits from that same site and he said it was great. He said the Z06 had a couple sorta tricky spots but overall very nice. I dont know to me it seems worth it. I could spend $600+ just to have the front bumper done from a professional, or pay less than $300 for the front bumper, hood, headlights, mirrors etc etc. and just do it myself.
I also heard a horror story from the Corvette forums of a place professionally installing a clear bra and put deep razor blade scratche marks over the entire front of the car. Only reason he found this out is because he ended up removing the clear bra. yeah no thanks!
Humm thats a good question I would have thought 3M would be the way to go but still not sure. I tried looking but dont see what the real differences are on the site.
I had an invisi-mask clear bra on a WRX I had quite a few years back. I installed it myself and it wasn't too hard. You just spray a solution and apply the film while wet which allows you to get it in perfect position.
I was very happy with it though at the time they only offered the strip that went across the front of the hood.
My luck being what it is, the road I traveled daily for work was being re-surfaced and I had rock chips everywhere, except on the front of the hood. =)
I have had the 3M clear bra on my last two vehicles. It protects the front very well. I plan on getting it put on my Overland if it ever gets here, hopefully next week. Well worth the money. Just find a reputable installer.
Difficult to see seams or any other trace of bra on my silver GC. I would be wary of attempting to install myself, though, but then again, I'm overly obsessive.
I have it on my S2000 and it was perfect for a while then after being out in the sun for so many years, the shine didn't match as well as the rest of the paint. I clean polish wax my cars twice a year and since you can't wax under the film it doesn't stay as shiney. In addition, when bugs and road grime get onto the film its pretty hard to get off, much easier to get off the paint. I chose to not get it on my WK2 because it sits pretty high up and the vinyl on the bottom end should protect much of the road rox and whatnot from damaging the gray. Best of luck if you decide to go with the bra. Oh and I had the 3M one installed on the S2K.
I bought this kit for the front end of my LTd. It's nice but it was a bit of a PITA and I did not do as good a job as I wished. I did it by myself and it was exhausting.
Thanks for the all the input guys. From what im gathering the results are for the most part positive about these kits. I can manage the install as im good with that kind of stuff and have always had a real steady hand.
As for it fading over the years im sure any kit is eventually going to do that, but in my situation should be as safe as it gets since my car is garaged basically all the time.
I to was wondering about the bikini cut or standard. I just assumed standard as I dont really think I need a rounded cut but they are pretty close in price.
I think I will do the front bumper, hood/fender kit, headlights (unless it degrades the projector output and cutoff), and mirrors. That along with the 10% discount code that was posted would make for a great deal.
Thanks,
James
