Aspherical Mirrors?

I am wondering if there were Aspherical Mirrors available for the WK2.

I had a set on my last car and I am now spoiled because they open up your field of vision so much.

Eventhough I have the Back up camera and the park sense I get frustrated by the limited visibilty of these mirrors and how huge the blind spots are.

The other thing I wonder about is why is there that little filled in space at the end of the mirror. That should have been mirror surface.

Export model owners and parts specialists help me find some better mirrors!

Re: Aspherical Mirrors?

It would have been nice to have larger mirrors (I've always driven using mostly the side mirrors since I learned to drive in GMC panel trucks with no rear windows and no rear-view mirror).

Anyway, I've always added 2" convex mirrors to my vehicle mirrors, and the same with my GC. Similar to these:

I installed them in the lower outside corner of each mirror, careful not to block the yellow blind-spot arrow.

Re: Aspherical Mirrors?

the day after I originally posted this thread I ended up buying some of these small blind spot mirrors and adding them to my outside corners of my mirrors as well.

I bought the smallest size and the really help but I am still hoping that I can come up with something better.

When adjusted properly you won't need any 'blind spot' mirrors. Check this out:

Correct, but the tilt function of the mirrors in reverse makes no sense anymore.

Actually I have mine adjusted per the above and the tilt still functions fine (ie, I can still see the curb). I might need to lean over a bit to see the tire but it works fine.

Re: Aspherical Mirrors?

I am glad that those options work for you all

If you were driving a van or a delivery truck the mirror adjustment method described above would not work for you.

Over the years I have tried many different configurations of adusting my mirrors and because of my parking situation I can't have my mirrors adjusted out that far for close quarter manuevers. So by adding the add-on blind spot mirrors I got the visibility I needed.

My car does not have the automatic tilt in reverse feature either but when backing into my driveway I have no problem manually tilting my mirror.

I would also add if you have ever been introduced to aspherical mirrors you would want them on every vehicle you own because of the increased visibility, especially for parking manuevers. Eventhough my car does have the back up camera I only use it when I am parallel parking so I don't bump the vehicle behind me otherwise I only back up using my mirrors. Everyone keeps asking why do you have a back up camera if you don't uses it.

Re: Aspherical Mirrors?

But we are not driving a van. As others have mentioned you do not really need any additional mirrors if the ones fitted are adjusted correctly. I have driven many trucks with asperical mirrors and while they work great in that setting, it is unnecessary on the JGC.

Re: Aspherical Mirrors?

These are the type of aspherical mirrors I was originally referring to when I had originally posed the question if they existed. These are curved at the outer edges, portion past the dotted line shows the curved area.
Apparently the export models do come fitted with them, I guess since they seem to be standard on certain trim levels that the people that have them on their cars take them for granted but they are a huge improvement over the regular mirrors that come installed on the US models in terms of the amount of additional visibility you get from these mirrors.

Re: Aspherical Mirrors?

I'm looking for blind spot mirrors that are a lower profile, anyone found something similar?
I'm currently using this:

CIPA 49404 2"x 2" Corner Wedge Stick-On" : Amazon.com : Automotive
