Disclaimer: I don't have any idea what software, process, FCA uses for tracking and building options.
However, any time you add any option to a widget, you have costs for making that option orderable in whatever applications are used to order widgets. Then you have costs to be able to take that info and apply it as the widgets are built.

These costs do not just affect the cost of the widget with the optional doohickey, they affect the cost of every widget produced.

If the numbers of doohickies are there, this makes sense, as in why you can order so many colors.

If the number ordered isn't big enough, whomever makes the rules for actually being able to order and track the widgets is likely to veto it. I suspect the delta is rather miniscule, particularly on a 50K vehicle.

So keep complaining--but to the folks who have input to Mopar--the dealers who keep trying to order it.

I can see this looking kewl on several colors, but it doesn't look appropriate for a dealer installed package. Nor would I risk my trim with that kewl spray chrome that is well over my hobby budget.

Re: Attention: Everyone who hates the chrome window trim...

My comment after that one didn't get starred to the top. BMW and Audi have no problem making black trim. When I had my BMW, the 328i got black trim, the upscale 335i got chrome trim. If you paid thousands extra for the Msport package, you could get the same black trim that comes on the lower model. Similar with Audi, you can get the "black optics" package for a thousand or so extra.

Jeep has no problem charging a grand for the Platinum Summit, which is satin parts instead of chrome, yet they still don't change the chrome window trim.

The answer here is whatever the mass market wants, they get. Apparently American SUV buyers are attracted to a shit load of chrome, so that's what we get. My next vehicle won't be a jeep.

This kind of kills his point since they just released black window trim way late in this body style. It would have been more cost-effective to release it at the start of the body style. Now, if the window trim design changes slightly for the new body style, they'll be losing money compared to if they started the black trim at the beginning of this body style.

I understand his point, but it makes no sense for them to release it now if it's the cost they're worried about. Hold off until next model. Base models usually get black trim, while higher end ones get the chrome (with the option to black it out).

I think you make a good point, body color like the Summit already does with some parts. It could be appealing. I wonder why they don't already, maybe the window seal &/or durability are potential problems? It sure seems doable.

Re: Attention: Everyone who hates the chrome window trim...

I agree with the posts, would be nice to have additional options when ordering a vehicle,or a 'lot ready' package as de chroming seems to be extremely popular currently, other manufacturers have already embraced these options as noted by one post on his BMW.Sure I would like the gloss, satin or matt finish black as it is a cool finish and really sets off the look of every Jeep ride posted on here,I guess Jeep will catch up and meet demand and snatch back some revenue that aftermarket is making on supplying products wanted by consumers.(really liked that satin black finish in another post a week or so ago),I would be happy, along with most others to pay extra for what I want in particular.

Plastidip works great. It's very durable and last a long time. It's simple to undu and easily touched up if needed. It's also really inexpensive if you are on a budget.

I'd like to use Rhino Liner on some lower trim. I may consider the window as a way to tie things together.
