Re: auto climate vs manual

Any chance of a parts list with part numbers ? Without a schematic being available this is difficult but it sounds like the MTC uses the same fan speed module as the ATC (or the manual fan control module will work with the ATC) which is correct please ?

Not to knock the auto system because I do like it... but I think the manual with the knobs looks real nice too! I wouldnt mind having it compared to many manual sytems I have had thru the years! But I do like my Auto setting,,,

The solar sensor in the middle of the dash, that’s it. This is used for sun load temperature and blower compensation.

Your dealer is 110% wrong and needs to have their head checked. The HVAC case, blower, blend doors and compressor are all identical between the manual and automatic controls.

Nope, incorrect.

Nope, incorrect.
The MTC connector will perfectly slide right into an ATC module. If you want to go from ATC to an MTC, two of the keying ridges would need to be trimmed with a pair of cutting dikes, but it’s otherwise a seamless transition as well.

Nope, incorrect.
You will be setting an internal DTC for “Solar Sensor – Open Circuit” though. If you are really ambitious, you could hand wire a solar sensor from and ATC into the back of the MTC harness. With this done, you would have 100% automatic functionality. Without it, you still have all of the automatic features, just no solar load compensation.

Trust me, we’ve swapped MTC and ATC controllers in countless WK2 vehicles during climate test trips. It can be, and has been, done… many times.
Welcome to the forum! Experienced folks who have done the work are always a plus!

Great news, i was wanting the auto system in my jeep and was wondering if the auto controls would swap in, good to hear it was done successfully. I already picked up the auto controls and the sun sensor.

Re: auto climate vs manual

Indeed, great news! My experience has been with another manufacturer (Ford). It included all of the previously mentioned headache issues (blend door, wiring, sun-load sensor, etc). Nice to know ChryCo designed a more "generic" system. Better design, in my opinion.

Re: auto climate vs manual

Now if someone would just provide the correct part numbers or identification. Last time I looked Chrysler had several that were almost identical.

Re: auto climate vs manual

Sure would be nice if the auto controls did not turn up the fan speed to "blast you out of the GC mode" all the time. I wish I could keep the controls in auto mode, but leave the fan set at a level I feel more comfortable with (and so I can hear the radio).

Poor Auto HVAC control design, IMHO. I leave mine in Manual and Sync mode 99.9% of the time, with the temp set at 72/72 deg F.

And it would be nice when I go from Manual - to Auto - and back to Manual, that the system would retain my original manual settings. I have to reset both the mode (I prefer dash and floor vents) and fan speed (I prefer setting 3-"bars"). Going from Auto to Manual, the system always goes to dash vents only and whatever fan setting it feels like - but always above my preferred 3-bars setting.

Would like to know if the temp setting does anything in manual mode, with the AC button on. Seems to, but the AC button stays illuminated all the time even when it seems to be pushing heat out of the vents at intermediate settings.

IIRC, "AC" simply means the compressor is engaged; the air is drier. Cool/Hot depends on the configuration of the blend-door (temperature setting).

So, you could have the AC on, but hot air blowing.

Lol it only about 2k to ship it from the East coast.

I can't believe some people like the manual knob vs the numeric looking ones.

Just move to Hawaii and will swap
