I searched this forum and didn't find any - has anyone installed a Baja Rack on their WK2? (Baja Rack
I'm still looking for a rack for my rig.
At the San Mateo Truck and Jeep Fest this weekend there weren't any rack manufacturers there but out in the parking lot there was a guy and his LR4 that had a Baja Rack up top. It was a sweet looking setup, low profile, nice quality, strong, lots of room, clearly well used but looking great. He let me climb up onto the rear ladder and check it out.
The owner said he tried two other racks before settling on, and loving, the Baja Rack. He stressed that it was much quieter than the others he tried (he told me, but I don't remember what they were. Gobi wasn't among them). When we were talking about the quietness of his Baja Rack his friend piped up with an "Oh yeah! It's very quiet!" By his response and manner he clearly was impressed with its quietness. So was the owner.
This owner said he's very active in the local Rover clubs, FINPUP is his CA plate, in case anyone here recognizes it (mine, BTW, is 4WL TREK). He had two large Pelican cases cinched down with come-alongs, a hi-lift jack clamped on, and places for two jerry cans that he has used but didn't have one there. It was a full size rack and had plenty of space for more gear.
My wife and I spent several minutes talking to the guy and his buddy, they were kind and patient with us as they were on their way in to the show while we were already done and leaving. The owner said he knows people who have Gobi racks (I've been leaning towards Gobi but am still doing my research) and those owners needed to have their racks re-plated / repainted because the quality and sturdiness just wasn't there once they loaded gear up and went wheeling.
I came away very impressed
by the Baja Rack. The LR4 install is very clean but it looks like they cater more to LRs than to JGCs. I'll want to see if it can be mounted nicely onto my rig.
Am wondering if anyone here has a Baja Rack or knows people who own one, and what their experience is. I'm a 20-year Yakima user but for my JGC I may go high end for a rack solution. Yakima is still in the game for me, though.
