I have to question this. I'm no way an expert so I'm just asking
When they say better optics. I believe they are wrong. The optical part of an hid headlight is in the projector not the light bulb. The bulb can only put out more or less lumen and color differences.
I know from vehicles owned that Lexus and Mazda have better projectors by far better than Jeep as well as ford that I've owned. When I asked why, it was explained the projector quality is just not there.
This is why the WK2 does not have the sharp cutoff that you see on other cars. The projector, not the bulb

Re: Best Aftermarket HID Bulbs? Osram or Phillips?

well....I installed the new osram D3 CBI bulbs into my 2014 grand Cherokee this morning and was pretty surprised to see that the OEM headlights are Actually Osram d3's already

the only difference is that the OEM ones are D3 6340HBI as opposed to the new ones being 6340CBI's

I can't see any real difference in color from the stock ones I pulled out...but it's light out now so I'll check them out after it turns dark today...

Not sure it's worth the $200 cost of new bulbs

The new Osram CBI's have a higher ~ whiter color temperature with slightly more Lumens than the OEM Osram bulbs. It may take 10 hours or more of burn time for those new CBI's to run at the slightly higher color temperature.

Re: Best Aftermarket HID Bulbs? Osram or Phillips?

Is this a DIY refit at home for a MY 2014? Just wondering, in case I end up with a burned out headlight bulb at some time in the future. The owners manual says to just bring it to the dealership. I'm not the most mechanically inclined.

Trust me
I'm no mechanical wiz either and I managed to swap my hid bulbs out in my driveway in about 15 minutes

Only need a screwdriver to loosen up the air box
That's it

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. I assumed that you had to remove the front fascia or something crazy like that.

Even removing the whole facia is easy. The hardest part is following the instructions. Took me an hour. If I have to do it again, 20 to 30 minutes tops

Post Re: Best Aftermarket HID Bulbs? Osram or Phillips?

I think I spoke to soon guys!

the new Osram CBI bulbs look GREAT!

they put out noticeably more and whiter light than the stock osram HBI bulbs.

As you can see in these pics ...the 2015 Durango on the left has the same HID factory lights as the Grand Cherokees ...and you can obviously see the difference in color between the 2. The light on the ground is yellow with the factory bulbs and very white with the Osram CBI's

The Durango has the OEM Osram 4300K HBI bulbs
the Durango also has the philips Diamond Vision 5000K H11 bulbs as compared to the grand cherokee with the 5000K Osram CBi's and the OPT 7 6000K LED fogs

I was going to try the ultinons but according to the Xenon Depot Site the lumen output is lower than the Osram or Philips 5000K bulbs...so I ended up buying the Osram CBI's

I just bought another set of OPT7's for the fog lights on the durango and was getting ready to order another of Osrams from Xenon Depot...but now I'm thinking I'll try the ultinons on the Durango now

Thanks for the info Scottina06

any chance you can snap a pic of them?

Do these HID lights include the ballast? Is that the aluminum block attached to the backside of the bulb?
