Aftermarket hitches are cheaper and install with 4 bolts in about 5 minutes.

Going back to the main question.

Does anyone tried any kind of trunk mounted rack for bicycles.

I don't have hitch also and I don't plan paying a lot

Thanks in advance

"Saris Bones" is what I ended up with. Works fine. Didn't cause any damage. I only carried one bike.

Do you think the spoiler will not be affected when I use it with 2 bikes ?

It will be fine with two bikes. Just make sure the foot is down on the bumper so that the downwardforce is not 100% on the spoiler. The spoiler seems sturdy.

Re: Bike (Bicycle) Racks - Tailgate mounting - MY2014

The upper arms of any strap on are for stabilisation only, the weight should be taken by the lower arms. Saris Bones are great.
Once you set it up, make sure to re adjust the straps after a few miles and they have settled.

Response from the actual company Saris...

Thank you for contacting Saris Cycling, sorry we do not have any trunk racks that will fit your vehicle do to the plastic spoiler on the top of the hatch. With all our trunk racks they use top straps that hold most of the weight of the rack and bike.

The spoiler in the back is not a loadbearing structure. You could use a hitch rack those.

Thanks and have a great day.

I have a KUAT(looks like a beta,,,,but for 3)..great rack. I bought it originally for my jetta....now I use it on the GC 2" with a piece of 2'x2'x3/4"x6" piece of aluminum angle iron for a spacer.

Re: Bike (Bicycle) Racks - Tailgate mounting - MY2014

If you haul your bikes once or twice a year, just take off the front tire and fold them into the back. If you can't or haul your bike around a lot, get a good hitch or roof rack mount. If your bike is heavy or you will load it often get a hitch mount.

Check out Rack Attack - Your Car Rack and Trailer Hitch Experts for solutions and reasonable prices. (All this sh*t is expensive)

Re: Bike (Bicycle) Racks - Tailgate mounting - MY2014

If I may add to the messages - I have had the opportunity over the years to try multiple different racks from several different manufactures. More specifically, I had 3 different racks from Saris(2 hitch mounted, 1 spare mounted), 2 from Thule(both hitch mounted), 1 from Yakima(hitch mounted), 1 from SeaSucker(vacuum cup mounted to the roof), 1 from Kuat(hitch mounted) and 1 from 1UPUSA(hitch mounted).

Quite honestly I was most pleased with the Kuat NV, as it was hitch mounted, robustly built(but heavy), and included factory bike locking cables and a factory work stand. But it was heavy - both to remove and move around, and in the added weight to the rear. Pleased with it, until I tried the 1UP.

This past fall I acquired a single mount rack from 1UPUSA - because I needed something to fit a fat bike. While a tad higher on the price side, it is a truly remarkable piece of kit. All aluminum, very robust yet VERY lightweight, fit ANY bike from road to fat, and when not in use, can fold itself into a smaller footprint and can be carried with one hand. And as the name implies, its designed to hold just one bike, but it can be increased in size, almost indefinitely. I can not say anything negative about the rack or the company. Each one is hand made, in Wisconsin USA, and ships same day generally, in a very stout box.

As it is now, the 1UP will be fixture with permanency. I have sold my other MTB bikes and will be riding fat year-round. I might look at add a second bike holder as I may add another bike(and a rider to go with the bike).

Re: Bike (Bicycle) Racks - Tailgate mounting - MY2014

1up rack here as well. I have the 2" single rack with an add-on rack for when my wife wants to go with or I'm hauling friends. I've also used the dual rack with the single extension to get 3 bikes from VA to NYC for a ride. Works perfectly and very sturdy.

I had a folded up 1up rack on the back of my WJ when I was rearended by a civic. The rack took it like a champ and almost saved my bumper, just a few small scratches in the paint. One of the bars on the rack was broken clean in half, but the rack was damn near still usable.
