I bought a nice hitch rack from Dick's sporting goods for 275$ and is nice quality and comes with appropriate equipment so your vehicle isn't damaged in any way!

Re: Bike (Bicycle) Racks - Tailgate mounting - MY2014

Hi There,

Opening up this thread again. I really need some options for boot mounted bike racks. Couple of you have tried Saris and say that it doesn't impact the spoiler. Can you please send photos and model number of these? I need to carry 3 bikes and don't want to install a tow bar at this stage.

I don't have bicycles but I googled sari bike racks and all kind of stuff pulled up with photos. Here's the sari site:

I've had the harbor freight for years. Just did a long 7 hour drive with no issues

Re: Bike (Bicycle) Racks - Tailgate mounting - MY2014

Hi Guys,

Attempted to transport 3 bikes on the Honda Jazz over the weekend using a cheap boot strapped rack bought from a bike shop. It was nerve wrecking experience to be honest although the bikes didn't fall off, the tension in the straps had to be tightned after first 5 kms. Still I was concentrating more in my rear view mirror than the front.

It got me thinking, I don't want to have an accident and risk lives of people. I then decided to bight the bullet and order a proper tow hitch to placed at the back of the jeep. yes it is going to cost 1500 bucks end to end but peace of mind is worth more than this.

Unfortunately the local dealer has this in back order and it will take atleast 5 weeks to arrive. I noticed OEM Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge & Ram Parts Online | Factory Chrysler Parts is having a sale. I wanted to see what the US price for the part is and how much AU dealer is charging me extra. Can someone identify the part number I should be ordering from above site.

Model: JGC 2012 Limited Diesel
Country: Austrailia
Cost that AU dealer is charging: AUD800
Cost of Fit: TBA

Thanks

Re: Bike (Bicycle) Racks - Tailgate mounting - MY2014

I have to tell you that using a hitch mounted rack is a decision you'll never regret. I've been using them for a long time, and it's without a doubt, well worth the cost, especially if you tote your bikes a lot. I'm having the dealer install a factory hitch on our new Compass next week. I got it included in the purchase of my vehicle. $375 installed. No wiring or other upgrades, just the hitch and bumper trim. I don't trailer anything, so just the hitch was fine. I use Kuat racks: KŁat Racks. Great product. I know things down under are a bit more pricey, but $1500 seems a little high.

The Aus hitch is different, it's made in NZ to Aus regulations by Best Bars. The US won't fit, your price also includes all the wiring harness etc...
You can go cheaper with Hayman Reese. This will prevent the use of a long range tank and the recovery hook will no longer fit either.

As for the strap on you used, the adjustment after 5km is normal and only crazy people don't do it.
