Your JGC blacked out looks really great, I also wanted a Blue but ended up with the black.

How many cans of dip did you go through and how many coats on the parts did you lay down?
Thanks!

I thought I took some photos during the trim process, but I guess I skipped them. My apologies for that.

The best way to mask off this area is to tape all the way up to and over the rubber seal, so you don't get plasti dip on the felt liner portion, which is a huge PITA to get off, as I did that the first time around. Now that is for the areas where the windows roll down. For the very back window trim area, definitely leave that rubber seal exposed to make it easier when removing. For the other side, away from the windows, leave a good buffer space of the body paint exposed too, so you have a generous portion that's strong when you peel it off.

Used about 3 cans for the entire plasti dip process, although some was used for re-doing portions. I did 5-6 coats just to make sure it was thick and fully covered. Lots of the areas around the sides and corners can be missed very easily while spraying, so take your time inspecting before peeling it all off.

It was a lot more work than expected, but fun to start the mods off with something I can do on my own.

Awesome, thank you for your quick reply and the tips on the window trim process. I do hate all the Chrome and I will be dipping it all for I cannot afford the wrapping and when I do sell this vehicle then it all can be pelled and back to factory looks.

Thanks again.

Re: Black or Chrome Window Trim Opinions?

Update on the dip.

Recently got the front windows and tail lights tinted, but unfortunately had the installers use some chemicals that got onto the dipped tail light and window trim, that slowly ate away at it. So, it had to all come off.

Same with my wheels I did a while ago. They held up great with the weather and salt on the roads, but as soon as some tire shine hit it, there was no going back. I know people had warned against tire shine specifically, but I completely forgot while getting it washed one day.

The chrome rings on the grill also suffered some scuffing from me bumping into my trash can in the garage, so it peeled some up. I also had a fight trying to removed the grill inserts for some different ones, and the dip also paid the price.

Now it's almost entirely back to exposed stock chrome and I'm hating it TBH. So I'm looking into having it professionally wrapped the next time around. There's no way I'm doing all that work again and my fingers are about to fall off from peeling up left over bits that remained.

So just an FYI, Plasti Dip does work amazingly well for giving you an idea of how it will look but it won't last like vinyl will, which is also completely removable.

Sounds like you're not using enough coats/thickness. Especially if it was hard to peel off? If you get it thick enough it'll come off in one big piece no problem. Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you.

Re: Black or Chrome Window Trim Opinions?

Is the chrome trim removable in order to facilitate the dipping? I dipped it on the car but it came out a little sloppy. Would like to know if its held on by clips that allow it to snap on and off.

There were at least 5-6 coats on each trim section, it's just the areas that didn't get sprayed as thoroughly (corners/edges) that are tougher to peel off. Most of it came off in one big piece.

I still love the stuff, but I'm surprised that many people can use it for so long without damaging it or putting up with the look after being affected. It's just not up to the perfection or durability the Jeep demands, in my personal opinion.

I'm not positive on that, but I don't see why it would be any different.
