black spots on my 2015 jeep grand cherokee white moldings have black spots

Hi I hope maybe somebody can help me with this problem. New 2015 jeep grand cherokee. They have changed the wheel well moldings to match the body color this year and I am not sure how happy i am about this so far. I put tire dressing on the tires a few days ago and now i have small black kinda brown little spots only on the white plastic painted molding under the back side of the wheel wells that I can get off. I have googled this for days and I can not find anything that is helping my problem. I was hoping maybe somebody who has a Jeep had this same problem and can tell me what I can do. Thank you

Hey,

This might be your problem. Some products fling off the rubber and onto the rear walls of the moulding. By what I can gather they should fade with time, but it might pay to ask the people affected if they have had any luck with other products. There are photos here which might be able to assist.

I'm waiting for a white SRT delivery and came across this in my research.

Cheers

Sounds like the tire dressing slung off of the tires or you have road tar. If it won't come off with a all purpose cleaner (simple green) or WD40 you should try a clay bar and clay lube.

If you find it happens again after applying tire dressing you might try a new product or at least make sure there isn't excessive build up. Wipe the tires with simple green and a rag during your wash and then apply a thin layer of tire dressing.

Re: black spots on my 2015 jeep grand cherokee white moldings have black spots

I had the exact problem with my GC when the dealer "prepped" it before pickup. They used this nasty tire dressing that got all over my fender well trim. I didn't notice until a few days later that it stained the paint in certain spots. Thankfully i had my meguiars super degreaser (diluted 4:1) on hand to remove about 90% of the marks. I recommend this stuff to anyone that is looking for an all purpose cleaner for detailing.

If you want to avoid this problem, look into a new tire dressing that is water based. What dressing do you use BTW? Its most likely a silicon based product. Another thing you need to make sure you do, is to clean your tires thoroughly before applying any dressing. Because if you don't any dirt that is on the sidewall will mix with the dressing and sling up.

Chemical Guys makes a dressing called VRP that does not sling (if not over applied) and will not stain your paint if it does wind up on there. I use it on my GC and my wife's Altima with awesome results.

Chemical Guys TVD_107_16 - V.R.P. Super Shine Dressing (16 oz) VRP

I buy all my products from Autogeek.net whenever they have promotions and or sales.

This happened to my brand new, white 1995 Mustang GT. I almost had the rear bumper painted as a result. However, 4-6 weeks later all brown specks had disappeared.

Re: black spots on my 2015 jeep grand cherokee white moldings have black spots

I just had this happen to. I noticed it yesterday after I rinsed off my jeep. I thought it was road grime or something. Makes sense that its the tire dressing. I washed the jeep on sunday and put on a new tire dressing i bought that is a gel.

After reading this I may have to get a new one.

Mine spots were in the wheel wells, front doors and read qtr panels. Luckly they just wiped off with a microfiber towel.

Where do you get that dressing that doesn't fly around. Your link wouldn't open up. Thanks

I also had this problem and the spots went away within a month or so.

I'll second Adam's VRT, amazing product. As antsjeep said, you can get it on Autogeek, but i got mine on Amazon.
