Re: Blacked out headlights...

do you have the tools needed to do this? Youll need several sharp chisels...very sharp. You may want to contact members DCSpecial or JDubya.....they have opened several of the oem HID 08-10 lamps. They are a biatch to open...but its worth it...as you can see on my Jeep. Most people like to soften them in the oven....but thats the 05-10 lamps....your gonna be the guinea pig on the 11+ lamps.

Re: Blacked out headlights...

Please keep us updated... I did this on a previous RR. Baked the headlamps to break the seal, painted and then baked again to re-seal. Not sure if these headlight enclosures are the same style but I look forward to the results.

I agree, the head light enclosures on the SEMA WK2 look awesome especially with no amber reflector.

Re: Blacked out headlights...

take a look in the WK forums to see some optiosn owners there have used. There are color matched, blck, flat black, satin, gloss, tinted sidemarkers, untinted....etc etc. Lots of good ideas here. You 2011+ guys should really venture out of the 2011 forums.....

Re: Blacked out headlights...

Yup, going with the baking method. Well actually I'm going to ATTEMPT to use my heat gun first, and if that doesn't work, the oven will be on stand-by.

I know I'm going to be the guinea pig, but I'm not worried. I've done about 10 sets of these in my life. I used to own a body/performance shop for many years where we did this kind of thing.

I have all the tools I need. I've always used a putty knife, butter knife, and a few flat screwdrivers.

IMHO, the lights should have COME this way. I'll put money that future versions of our truck will come with blacked out bezels.

Re: Blacked out headlights...

I've decided I'm going to do this NEXT weekend, as my HID Fog Light kit comes in this week and I want to do it all at the same time. With the bumper off, I can do a really clean, factory install of the HID components.

I'll fully photograph the entire job and post a nice, long how-to up here.

Re: Blacked out headlights...

if you're spraying over the lenses then i dont like it at all... fashion over function in my book is UGLY.. HOWEVER, if you are doing it right and opening up the lenses, spraying it inside then that would look SIC!

either way, POST PICS!!!

Nah..it's cool. I opened myself up for it as I asked for everyone's thoughts. I think he misunderstood, anyway.

I'm NOT smoking the lenses, which DO (in my opinion) look a little rice and DO reduce lumen output.

I'm baking, taking the headlight modules apart, painting the interior bezels body color (Brilliant Black Pearl), and reassembling them.
