Blacking out Window Trim

I'm really enjoying my 2016 High Altitude, but I can't figure out why Jeep would do all dark chrome except for the window trim. It's starting to bug me and I'm exploring options. It looks like replacement black trim is available, but I'm really hesitant to start messing around with changing it all out on a brand new vehicle. I've got a friend with a graphics company that does a lot of automotive work who may be able to vinyl wrap the window trim. I'd like gloss black to match the panel on the door post as well as the wheels and all the other badging. Has anyone done this already? With proper application does it look good and last. I'm open to opinions and suggestions. Thanks

Blacking out Window Trim

Vinyl seems to be the most popular option, mainly due to cost. Some have painted.

I plan on having mine wrapped in the next few weeks to finish what the factory should have done.

GL with the new ride!

Re: Blacking out Window Trim

I never got that far. My friend is the manager in the body shop at my dealership. We went out and found a couple of WK2's on the lot that had all black trim. He suggested that I get the VIN off one of those and let the parts department price the pieces out. He was concerned, however, that the moldings around the rear quarter glass were integral and would involve changing the glass and all. I didn't want to get into it that deep and crossed that option off the list.

Re: Blacking out Window Trim

Had my window trim, door handles, and the chrome piece surrounding the trunk "step" done in gloss black today. It looks great. I plastidipped my emblems and mirrors with matte black. The contrast of the different blacks look killer. I definitely recommend mixing finishes. Ran me $350 for the vinyl work. I also got a $160 ticket for having 20% tints today... grumble grumble....

Vinyl holds up very well if installed properly. That stuff is very forgiving on the install.

Re: Blacking out Window Trim

Vinyl is the way to go. I had mine wrapped in gloss black and it's awesome! 200 bucks installed.
OEM gloss black trim is VERY expensive. I think someone pieced together all the trim from a new 2016 and it was well over a grand, AND and you to completely remove the rear glass from your vehicle as the trim is part of the window assembly.

Re: Blacking out Window Trim

If you're a DIY'er check out shadowlinetrim.com. It costs about $50 for two rolls. Took me 30-45min to get the hang of laying the vinyl and I've got about 10ft or so left for any fixes if needed.

The window trim is actually quite easy. I tried plasti-dipping the trim and what a freaking PITA. The corners kept peeling up when I was trying to remove the excess.
