Re: BlackOps CF Mirror Covers Installed

Yeah, I have a heat gun but the issue comes in with only two hands. Almost need someone feeding the tape and slowly removing the backing while another person is keeping the tape taught and smoothing the wrinkles while another person is giving it a shot of heat every now and again to help smooth it out. That's six hands Or maybe I'm just not talented enough Let me know if you find any secrets on your install.

I feel like its one of those things where you have to find your rhythm (how much to pull, where to start, which direction to smooth, how much heat, etc...) and then the rest falls into place. At least I hope...

Edit: This guy does an entire door in 5 minutes. He did the first press really quick...I was going inch by inch....hmmm...might have to switch my method.

Re: BlackOps CF Mirror Covers Installed

I got mine in the mail Friday but one of them (driver's side) had a defect. Chad replied quickly and will send a replacement soon. Can't wait to put them in. Awesome quality and real CF. I thought this was just a vinyl cover when I first bought.

About applying vinyl to the trim.... It's not as easy as everybody thinks. I just paid someone to do it to save material and time.

After struggling to get it to look perfect, I took off all the vinyl. From a far it looked good, but up close I had too many small imperfections. all I can say is good luck because its not as easy as it looks.

Re: BlackOps CF Mirror Covers Installed

I tried again with no luck. I've kind of given up on the vinyl unfortunately. I just don't have the touch. I bought 6 cans of Plastidip and just finished hitting every piece of chrome on the jeep with 4 layers. While I really like this stuff, I learned a lot regarding my technique along the way (distance, pressure, speed, etc..). I think I'll eventually have to do everything over again but it at least gives me an idea of what it looks like all blacked out. I'll take and post some pics tomorrow when it's light out.

Re: BlackOps CF Mirror Covers Installed

Some pics - I'll take more tomorrow in good light. Definitely more of an agressive look than the stock 20's with chrome everywhere

Re: BlackOps CF Mirror Covers Installed

Thanks...not so great when you see it up close...many of the edges started pulling up when I was removing the excess. I applied 4 coats but I'm wondering if I didn't hit the edges good enough or thick enough. Anyways, here's a before and after shot. It rained this morning so she's dirty...but you get the idea.
