Body Side Moulding Question

So after a carefull 45,000 miles my 2014 drivers door got "dinged" in a parking lot by ?, directly on the lower "crease/edge" 2 inches before the end of the door! Mad! Body shop suggested paintless dent removal as first try, if I don't like that it will be almost $700.00 as they will have to paint both doors to make everything blend. I believe that 2014 was the first year WITHOUT the lower chrome/aluminum body side moldings which would have offered protection so does anyone know if the previous year moldings have TAPE to stick them on or are they BOLTED through the door? Body shop said they can do tape but cannot drill the doors if they come with studs/bolts. Something I thought I would consider as it would cover the "ding". Thanks for any input, Dave

Re: Body Side Moulding Question

The 11-13 strips are held on ONLY by tape. No clips or bolts or screws or anything.

As far as the dent, always try pointless dent repair first. Those guys can do amazing things!! I know you said it's by a crease, but if they are able to do it you won't ever tell there was a ding there. I hate having parts repainted and infact I would rather live with a ding than have some shop repaint multiple panels that probably won't even match perfectly.
You could add the strips, but honestly, most other doors would not line up with them so it's hit or miss if they will even prevent a ding. They will date your 2014 Grand Cherokee a bit as I personally feel the lack of strips on the 2014+ models look a lot better, but that's all subjective.

I have a set of chrome door strips for sale in the classified section of this forum. I'm open to an offer if you want them. http://www.jeepgarage.org/f12/2011-2...ngs-92971.html

Thanks! I will get the paintless dent removal job done first and then see what it looks like, bodyshop guy said it won't be perfect but maybe I can live with it and not have to add the moldings, here is hoping anyway! Dave

This is spot on.

I've had PDR done on a reinforced outer roof rail on a previous car...an area that is very difficult due to access and strength of the body. Turned out great. Avoid traditional repair at all cost. So much room for error with the body tech and the paint tech.
