Brake Controller mounts

I am trying to figure out where to mount the Brake controller on my JGC. I don't want to drill a lot of holes but I do want to remove it when not in use. I have the P3 with the quick disconnect mount For those of you who have mounted one would you mind snapping a quick pic showing where your mounting location is.

Thanks in advance for the help

Re: Brake Controller mounts

I used heavy duty Velcro and taped it to the bottom side of the dash just below the head light dial. This allows me to remove the harness if I want to.

Re: Brake Controller mounts

Steer clear of the knee bolster airbag under the steering wheel. I'm not sure which year they started putting those under there but a deployed air bag could turn your controller into a lethal projectile.

Re: Brake Controller mounts

Yea. I agree. I bought the Mopar branded and still haven't quite figured this out yet. We have that knee bolster air bag deal in the way. Not much to mount to under it either.

Re: Brake Controller mounts

How about inside of the center console bin area (where the SD card slot is)? It would be out of the way, but still accessible when needed.

If I put one where Jim did, I would smack my knee on it regularly (just because that is how it goes....)

Kind of a shame that Jeep did not plan this better. On my RAM there was a small pocket on the left of the lower dash. To put in the Mopar controller I just had to pop out that pocket and attach the controller to the pre existing plug. Seems like that would be a good idea for the GC's with the towing package....

Re: Brake Controller mounts

I wonder if you could use the controller from the new RAM's in a Jeep.

The controller itself is super tiny with an additional module that mounts elsewhere. Something this small could probably be easily mounted into the lower dash and not have to hang underneath. Would take some research and DIY, but could be a pretty clean/slick look.

Re: Brake Controller mounts

I don't use mine very often so I made it removable. The center bin was the best location using a sturdy temporary mount. I used the bracket supplied and attached it to a plate with sponge glued to it. This located it within the bin area without sliding around. A bit of black paint made it pretty.

Re: Brake Controller mounts

IMHO, all kinda fugly......

I believe that the DirecLink is the neatest installation. The actual controller handset sticks on the windshield by the A pillar, in your line of sight. When you don't need it (or need to hide it) just remove it and put in your center console/leave it at home and simply tuck the telephone cord under the kick panel until you next need it. Just a couple of minutes to hook it back up

No affiliation, just a happy customer.

Re: Brake Controller mounts

I put mine below dash towards right side. Installed it so I could take it out when not needing it. After having it in, I don't even take it out because I don't even realize it's there anymore.
