Car seat questions

Hey Guys,
My wife and I are thinking of getting a JGC and have a little guy on the way (any day now actually!). I test drove a jeep the other night and was really impressed by the onroad performance, comfort, luxury and love the all terrain/ weather capability since we live in New England.

I was wondering about how the second row handles car seats. Do most of you put the car seat in the middle seat or is there room to put the car seat behind the front passenger or drive seat? Does it still allow for passengers to comfortably sit beside the car seat? I know car seats come in different shapes and sizes but we currently have a car seat installed in our Xterra and it feels like it takes up the whole back row (and it will only fit in the middle seat).

Thanks in advance for the insight!

Re: Car seat questions

I tried multiple locations in my 2012 Overland. The middle location kind of sucked because it made you have to have both front seats pretty far forward and I could never be comfortable. not only that but you could not lay down either of the rear seats to fit something large in the back.
So I then tried it mounted behind the passenger seat. MUCH better! I can now lay down the larger rear folding seat without a problem and I can also have my drivers seat exactly where I want it. The passenger seat does have to be moved forward, but its still fine because my wife is the one that sits in that seat.
The seat is rear facing BTW so it definately takes up a lot more space.

Thanks for the response...this is very helpful and exactly the info that I was hoping for! Your configuration may be the best option for us if we go this route. My wife is only 5'3" and I do most of the driving so she probably wouldn't mind a little less space.

Glad I could help. Yeah your wife would have plenty of room, my wife is around 5'6" and she has plenty of room. The other added benefit of this location is the ease of getting the baby in and out of the car seat. The rear doors of the Grand Cherokee open almost 90 degrees so its pretty nice.
Goodluck with your search on the Grand Cherokee if thats what you decide to do.

Re: Car seat questions

First, congrats! Exciting time for you guys

Second, here's a good thread with many pictures:

Child Car Seats?

My setup is based on me being 5'10, my wife who is 5'4" in the passenger side, and our 10 month old being 31" ish, just to give you an idea.

Re: Car seat questions

I can never get te search to work for me on the iPhone...

Anyway, I have an infant base/carrier behind the passenger seat and like others said you have to move it up a lil but my 5'4" wife sits there 99% of the time.. The only time I sit there is when she's my DD lol. I have 2 forward facing seats next to the infant seat so the jeep will accommodate if you end up with 2 or 3 kids too.. U just lose the ability to fold seats down.. But I never need to since I have a truck with 3 car seats in it too..And as u can see from the pic how much leg room my FF kids have.. That is a big upgrade compared to my Tacoma... Of course they still like to kick and scuff up the seat backs lol..

Re: Car seat questions

Great looking family!! The info and pic is much appreciated. So basically (from the responses here), the JGC is extremely versatile and can easily handle multiple kids and car seats. Great news, another selling poin for the wife!!
