Center Overhead LED Courtesy Light Brightness

Hi, I hope this is the right section to get an answer, tried searching and couldn't find anything.

The small (LED I guess?) courtesy light that's on the top console by the sunroof controls, to supposedly help you see a little in the dark when fumbling around the center console, is it supposed to be super dim?

On my RAM 1500 (2013) it's quite decently bright and I can use it to see details like the top of my coffee cup in the dark during morning drive to make sure I'm not putting my mount on the wrong side and spilling coffee everywhere.

On the 2015 SRT, the light is on, however it doesn't seem to shine much further than a couple inches down from the light itself, and I can't use it to make out any details. Is it supposed to be so dim or do I have a defective bulb/LED in this light?

Thanks for any help!

So it's just really dim? What is it intended to illuminate, it doesn't even reach down to the cupholder area? Maybe I got spoiled by the truck.

Can it be upgraded or replaced with a brighter bulb/LED?

Thanks.

I think I know which light your talking about. But to be sure there's a small button you push to turn on the one bulb and then if you want more light you push the actual light lens cover.

There's one for the driver and passenger separated by the low light button, the open rear hatch button and garage door (I think).

Is this one your referring to?

If so mine is super bright when I push the lens cover but half as bright when I push the small button.

Cheers

Nope, I was talking about the one that's always on, the bulb/source is only about 2mm wide. It's just very dim in the Jeep whereas it was quite bright in my Dodge Ram. The lights you're talking about are basically dome/map lights and yeah they are super bright when activated.

Re: Center Overhead LED Courtesy Light Brightness

Yes, it was super dim on our 2012 and is still the same on our 2015 model. No easy way to swap it out.

Only 2 options come to mine.

#1. Does the Ram overhead console LOOK the same as the one in the Jeep? I know the ones for the Jeep, Charger, Challenger and 300 are all pretty much the same other than LED color and brightness.... Assuming the Ram is the same, first option is to get an overhead console from a RAM (eBay has them come up for all Chrysler lines often) and swap out the complete LED module. The complete module, however, includes both the center (always on) LED you are referencing as well as the two LED maplights controlled by switches... So this might change the brightness and/or color of the other two LEDs as well.

#2. Get with somebody who can solder SMD LEDs... You can find any brightness or color you want online and they are relatively easy to swap out for those with SMD solder experience. I did this on our 2012 to get the two MapLights to match the whiter color of all of the other interior LEDs I swapped in for all of the incandescent bulbs.

Man they must be dim. I never even knew it existed. Going to have to look for it now.

I know now what your talking about. My last SUV had them Actually very convenient without being noticed. If that make sense.
