Changing antenna

Im looking at changing the antenna on my GC to a shorter one as it keeps hitting the garage door everytime I drive the car in and out of the garage.

I know that many on here have changed the antenna to a shark fin antenna.

Im wondering if this would work instead of the shark fin. Looks likes its slightly easier to install as well.

What are your thoughts?

Re: Changing antenna

I think that would definitely affect radio reception.

I took the antenna off of my WK and still got great reception with no replacement and drove it like that for a couple of weeks. I ended up putting an 8" antenna on just because it looked funny with just the black/chrome base.

Re: Changing antenna

I put a $10 5 inch short and stubby rubber antenna (mangowalk) on the spouses liberty for the same reason. If I try hard I can find just a little affect on AM and FM for those stations with marginal reception to begin with, but she listens to sat anyway which is not affected. You'll notice no difference on the stronger signals. The antenna looks good, better than the long thin OEM IMHO, and has been on there two years without issue. Make sure the replacement antenna has the right kind of threads for the chrysler base (I don't recall the chrysler thread) but this one and many others come with adapters.

Very easy screw off old, screw in new install.

Re: Changing antenna

I had an RX-7 a while back that had an electric antenna. Turn on the radio and it raised up. Turn off the radio and it went down all the way. Pretty cool.

Re: Changing antenna

FWIW, the sharkfin is not a hard install at all. Granted it is not as simple as screwing in a shorter antenna but it looks awesome.

I get compliments all the time on mine. Well worth the 6-minutes of time I spent installing it.

yes pretty cool until the mast prematurely wears and it's stuck, then you find out the labor cost on replacing it along with the cost of the mast and you don't think it's cool anymore hah

vr-4 here same antenna
