Chrome Door Handles

Has anyone seen or tried to replace the door handles on their WK2? I am trying to de-chrome most of my jeep, and put painted handles from a laredo on. Any write-ups available, it would be a huge help.

Re: Chrome Door Handles

I looked into removing my chrome in favor of the painted.

At the time, replacement door handles were going to cost like $500/set and they weren't even available. They are available now and much more reasonable in price, ~$220/set. Then, you'd have to rip off the interior door panels to access the handle to remove and re-install. Not that it is out of my DIY ability, just wasn't so sure it is worth it for $500.

Another thought was to find a Laredo owner who wanted the chrome door handles and do a swap. If you are close enough in location set it up with a shop to perform the work and split the cost. It would end up costing you roughly $200 without any work. This is what I wanted to do as I felt $200/$250 was worth it for this modification but no one in the area was interested.

Now, that the parts have come down in price, I assume it is due to availability, I am seriously considering doing this in the fall.

Still willing to trade though...

Re: Chrome Door Handles

They appear to be. If you select the front door link and then on the choice tree select chrome instead of painted you can view the exploded parts illustration. From that diagram the button appears to be there.
