Chrome grill insert

I think the chrome Mopar inserts for the '11-'13 models are much more expensive. Maybe they are metal? Anyway when I was looking online I found a lot of variation in Mopar accessory pricing....

You have to buy the entire grill to get the mesh chrome inserts for a 2011 - 2013.
It's still just plastic.

All those little holes have to be wiped individually maybe every second or third car wash or they just look cloudy/lose their shine and then what's the point. I use my pinky finger in a microfiber cloth and some detailing spray. I do it when no one is around to see me because I don't want to look like I am too nuts. SECOND: the proper way to install them is to REMOVE the front bumper. I did not know this when I bought them. I read online of people doing it without removing the bumper but honestly I don't see any way how. There's no room to get to it from above or below unless you have the thinnest and longest forearms ever. I asked my dealer to do it and they charged $100 labor which I thought was fair for the work involved.
Thanks for this post, that was one of the things crossing my mind when thinking about the black or chrome inserts. I know the rest of the chrome on this is high maintenance to the extent that it needs a microfiber towel to keep window trim and handles looking their best. You may have just helped me make up my mind to go with black or to keep the slots I have. I love the honeycomb look though. I'm with you, I'll take it to the dealer and let them do it right. I recognize it can be done but I suppose I'm not brave or handy enough to do it on my own.

Re: Chrome grill insert

I just read this somewhere else on here from another member, as part of a post about a trailer hitch...I leave it here for future DIY grille replacement tips:

Also, I installed black grill inserts today to replace the altitude silver ones, and it went pretty quick. I have read about two techniques, top down or taking the whole front off. I'll suggest another, bottom up. With the lower front facia off (7 half turn tabs, easy to remove since it was designed for quick removal), it is fairly easy to reach up and work the inserts out. It literally took me half an hour to swap them, which was a much quicker project than others i have tackled.

Re: Chrome grill insert

Installed the black honey comb grill, very happy with it! Glad I went with the black offers balance with the rest of the vehicle and especially with the chrome bug guard. Took less than an hour it is a pia but very doable! I have attached some pics lighting is terrible I can add pics with better light later once the weather clears.

Re: Chrome grill insert

That looks great, especially with the white GC! Thanks for posting the photos and where you bought them. Did you take the bumper off or work from the top down?

Re: Chrome grill insert

Top down, wore long sleeves and the arms still got a little scuffed up but worth it. Most of the tabs were released by just pushing and manipulating from the front without using a screw driver and nothing was damaged! I did cut one section the passenger side piece it was a real pain.

Re: Chrome grill insert

I notice you have the black tow hooks too.....did you install those? How did it go? I've read the bumper has to come off to install those?

Re: Chrome grill insert

The genuine Mopar ones I installed are pretty flimsy and made in China as I recall (as are the entire interior door trim panels). I'm not sure you have much to lose by trying a cheaper Chinese version of the grille inserts. It may be from the same factory.

What chrome? This is a standard Limited with the only extra being the luxury pack (different seats, vented)
