Chrome peeling?

Hello all, I have a 2012 Jeep, and for some reason the chrome on the border of the cup holder is peeling. Are you any of you guys having this problem? I understand it's a small issue but if it continues it will start to look bad.

Re: Chrome peeling?

I am having the same issue. I keep meaning to take it apart and see if that chrome ring is easy to replace, but haven't gotten there yet.

Yeah I don't know why it's doing this.. May be some type of defect.. Mine is peeling slowly and I keep seeing little pieces of chrome at the bottom of the cup holder.

Re: Chrome peeling?

The dealer should replace under warranty.

I had the same concern a few months ago. However, upon closed inspection I discovered it was not the chrome peeling. It was actually a film of clean liquid (pop, sparkling water?) that had spilled and dried on the chrome. A little 409 and the chrome was like new.

It sure looked like the chrome was peeling.

Sure had me worried and pissed thinking the plastic chrome around the cupholders would peel after 10K miles and barely over 1 year.

The chrome is part of the shift bezel, and the part is not cheap - so have your dealer replace it under warranty if it is actually peeling. Best luck.

Re: Chrome peeling?

Yes I have the same issue. The metal chrome is peeling around the cup holder and it's razor sharp. It's not plastic but actual chrome. I went to the Dealer who said that Chrysler would have to get involved and they gave me the 800#. I called Chrysler & then put the dealer on the phone with them. Chrysler gave the dealer a TSB NUMBER to fix it. The dealer then said there is no such TSB in the data base. Chrysler gave me an incident # and said they are escalating it. They will call me in 2 days.

Re: Chrome peeling?

I just noticed the very same problem the other day. Very sharp pieces lifted up but not yet broken off in the cup holder. Hope they will replace under warranty on my '12 GC Overland.

Re: Chrome peeling?

If you're still under warranty, they will replace it. Had mine done on a 12 GC in Aug for the same issue. If not under warranty, you'll have to get Chrysler involved and see if they'll replace it.

Re: Chrome peeling?

Just had this exact same problem, 2012 Overland Summit. Chrysler is well aware of this cupholder bezel peeling chrome issue and should replace it if you are still under warrantee.
My local dealer replaced this bezel...... barely made it under the 36 month bumper to bumper warrantee.

The center console bezel has a MSRP of $439.00 illuminated for an Overland or Limited, with lighted cupholders.
Dealer cost is $263.00 for the bezel, Mopar part #1SY571X9-AD. It clips into place with 20min. allotted to R/R for a warrantee claim.

Re: Chrome peeling?

I'm curious...Do you guys use the holders daily with coffee mugs made of alum or porcelain? I never had an issue over the last 3yrs but started using an alum mug a few months ago and can now see markings where it will definitely begin to wear out and peel if I continue using.

Re: Chrome peeling?

I got a lot of iced coffee so maybe the moisture makes it peel?
