Re: Chrome tailgate peice

I have done this on a commander so I assume it's the same or similar on the WK2. You need to remove the tailgate indoor panel, starting from the bottom up (just pull). The tailgate handle will probaby be hold in place by screws and clips and you will need to disconnect the flip glass harness.

Re: Chrome tailgate peice

If you are just taking it off to paint it, etc - you can pull it off of by prying gently from the outside. There is a seam (held on with some doublesided tape), and I was able to pull it off. The "base" of it can stay on the jeep, and you can just pull off the chrome piece. Just be sure not to pry back too close to the jeep, as you will pull the whole thing off.

If you need, let me know, and I will snap some pictures - now that I took mine off, can take it back off in just a minute or two...

Re: Chrome tailgate peice

Here you go -

Basically it is the front seam near the edge.

The first time will be a bit tougher - it is held on with double-sided tape. I did mine at the outside 2 points, then just shifted inwards until it came free. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE BUTTON - it will come off. I taped mine on so I wouldn't lose it.

As an aside - I didn't end up liking the Plastidip - so sent it to Scotts Paint and Performance (see him in the vendor forum) to have it painted.

Re: Chrome tailgate peice

Thanks for sending it in! The plastic dip isn't for everyone.... It is not very shiny or durable IMHOP.... Fixed many set's of rims badges ect that were dipped and wasn't what they wanted in the end.
Glad I could help!
Thanks again,
Scott~
