Cooled Front Driver Seat

For those that have the heated/cooled front driver and passenger seats, how cool does yours get?

I have a 2015 overland and it feels like my drivers seat barely is getting any airflow compared to my passenger seat. Has anyone experienced this and has a solution or is this the way it is supposed to be?

Re: Cooled Front Driver Seat

First, your seat is not cooled, just vented. They suck cabin air down through the seat, rather than blowing air out. If you put your hand on an empty seat it may feel like it is blowing air, but it is just the air going around your hand. When someone sits in a seat, the bigger their butt, the less air flow as more vent holes get covered.

The air exhausts under the seat to the rear. Make sure nothing is restricting the exhaust flow.

I did not know that....I was going to reply to the OP, that my 2011 GC seemed to vent more than my current 2014 GC...Even the wife noticed and made the comment a couple of days ago...

Re: Cooled Front Driver Seat

I had no idea. Learn something new everyday.

Ill have to check and make sure theres nothing blocking the exhausts under the seat. Ive never really bothered to poke under there.

Maybe I just need a smaller butt.

Re: Cooled Front Driver Seat

The vented seat in my '14 Summit works pretty effectively! So much so that I regularly find myself either turning it to the lower setting, or off all together. With that said, ventilated seats work MUCH better with the climate control on. Say for example you are cruising on a warm 80 degree day with the windows down. If you put the vented seat on it won't do a whole lot. Put the climate control (AC) on and you will very quickly feel the seat ventilation system work more effectively.so not sure if that's your issue or if it truly just isn't working right, but I think the system was primarily designed to work with windows up and climate control on.

The type of fabric you are wearing on your posterior will materially affect air flow, too...

So based on these 2 posts, we all need smaller butts and drive with no pants?

Too many mods to list for each, so let's just say a lot was done over the years.

For cooling it depends. Since it grabs air from under the passenger seat sometimes it's not so cool, but other times it's pretty nice. I like it when I'm sweating cause it really helps. The type of clothing you wear really matters.

As for heating, in the 2012 it wasn't all that great. The heat pattern was like a donut shape ring on the rear and a little on the lower back, but nothing more. However, in later model years I heard they fixed it and now it gets hotter than it was before.

Re: Cooled Front Driver Seat

LOL. I certainly don't suggest the "no pants" option, although if that is your thing, the air flow could be, um...amusing. But seriously, I've used my seat ventilation enough to notice the difference between looser weaves and fabrics that breath less, so if you're in a hotter climate and driving a lot, this is certainly something to consider for your own comfort.

Doesn't it actually pick up air from just behind the seat to blow up on you?

Some fabrics block more of the flow than others... and on a hot day it can take a bit for your A/C to cool down cabin air such that the airflow is cool.

I don't see a difference between the two seats, but after a burst of initial cooling, it seems to damp down a bit, then later may go back to higher cooling. No clue if there is any actual change in the air flow...
