Crossbars on my wifes's '15 GC overland-no keys!

Hey guys, - My wife just traded her 08 GC Limitied 4.7ltr in for a '15 OVERLAND 4x4 -- (low miles 15k)

BUT - it came with MOPAR cross bars on top. And we were given no key. and wer not promised a set, we didnt realize there was a lock on them.

Well, she drives on the interstate everyday and gets very loud whistle up top -

Any idea on how I could remove them without the key? Id actually like to put them on my '14 - I work very close to home - I kinda like the look.

Any idea?

First see if there are any numbers on the lock. If so you may be able to order keys.

If you know anyone with a pick kit, they are the easiest locks to pick. If not, a local lock smith could do it, but get the price first. Once they get one out they should be able to cut or order keys.

It might be cheaper to drill the locks out and replace them.

Doesn't Thule make those for Mopar?

Call Thule and check it out, might get lucky as I know they can provide replacement keys on their branded stuff, maybe Mopar too....

First see if you can take them off, they may not be locked. If the lock (that the key slides into) is parallel to the ground, they are not locked. If they are vertical, they should be locked.

Oh, forgot to mention that you use an Allen wrench to take them off, not the lock/key. Although I bought mine last year, I first put them on last week. I like them a lot and they are quiet, even at 90 MPH.

Pull up the rubber strip on top, there are two allen screws there. Loosen and the racks should come off. Assuming these are OEM, the key lock is to keep from removing any attachments that slide in the groove once you remove the rubber strip.

What he said.

Also, if the bars are really loud, they might not be installed facing the correct way. The design is like an airplane wing, want the fatter side facing front. I routinely drive 80 with minimal noise (although I have factory knockoffs, not mopar).

Re: Crossbars on my wifes's '15 GC overland-no keys!

The inner Allen is used to tighten the bracket down. The outer Allen, toward the street/door, is used to mount/remove/slide the bracket along the rail. If you loosen this Allen to much, it could become separated and damage the GC, so be careful.

So far, every time I've turned my key vertical to lock it, I have not been able to remove the key. Most likely your rack is not locked. As stated, just lift up the rubber strip to expose the Allen headed screws.

I just checked my mounting instructions and there is no mention of the keys.
