Re: Day time driving lights

make sure you're on level ground and place in "N" and DRL will stay on.

Re: Day time driving lights

Can't believe this didn't occur to me until now, but realized I was attempting to check the drl's by myself when I was in my garage. Wasn't dark, but sure wasn't light enough for the jeep to think it was daylight. Genius move on my part. I'll try the neutral move again tomorrow outside during the day and bet they work.

Check the color temperature...5K will be pretty white. 6K will tend toward blue.

Re: Day time driving lights

I literally just replaced the DRL "toaster" bulbs with LEDs about 15 minutes ago when I had some time between conference calls. Me likey! The color is now very close to the projector headlights in my Summit. (Yea, I'm a bit anal) It's not technically a difficult job...at least for the passenger side, but the driver's side is a BEAR. One must disconnect the air intake setup to be able to snake one's hopefully skinny arm and hand in to do the deed. Even then, an extra joint in m arm would have been useful...

As has likely been mentioned, it's important to check that the LED replacements are in with proper polarity. (car turned on and in neutral so they light) before you put things back together. My luck was that both were backwards...and there is no marking to know for sure outside of trial and error.

I used these LED "bulbs"...

Ooh...and yea...my first mod. Finally.

Re: Day time driving lights

Hey guys

I have been reading numerous threads comparing the Putco vs the VLED vs CREE.

They all seem to be plug n play.

I remember an expert saying that LED's should not be used for DRL because they tend to get very hot, and will melt the head light.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Which of the above 3 would you guys recommend?

Thanks!

Re: Day time driving lights

The OEM halogens were baking my DRLs to a crisp...I don't think that the CREE LEDs are going to be much worse, if worse at all...

Re: Day time driving lights

Heat is still generated by the LED but not anywhere near that the halogen bulb produces.

The reflector fogging is greatly reduced.

The reason I are trying the reflector bulbs is because the heat sink is moved to behind the diffuser with the jeep logo on it which is made of metal.

Re: Day time driving lights

After some months of use, has anyone had problems with melting that was an issue with the first LED DRL solution?
