I ordered a 2017 silver billet limited, expected delivery in march. wanted to check my de chroming parts list I have to order before it comes in...if I forgot anything please let me know. i'm thinking most parts will be from an altitude? should I just buy direct oem parts one shot from the dealer? or try ebay, just for jeeps, mopar ect...my plan is to have what I need painted done and have the black parts all ready for when the limited comes in and have the dealer install everything before i pick it up. the debadging, wheels & window trim i'll do myself. was contemplating color matching the grill, but not sure yet. might just keep it black.
black:
jeep tailgate logo
window trim vinyl taped
gloss black door handles
gloss black mirrors
grille trim rings
honeycomb grille
rear bumper step plate
22" black Tokyo wheels
color matched:
slimline roof rack strips
front lower fascia
license plate frames
fog light trim
I am personally not a fan of color matching the accent pieces (door handles and Mirrors excluded but that's a huge money sink unless you are using covers). To me, it washes the silver out since it's such a light color. You don't get the "pop" that you would if you stuck to black. I just did my grill rings gloss black to match my grill on my Billet Silver Overland. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow to show you so that you can see it with the color you are getting. I'm sure that you saw on my other thread that I plan on wrapping everything in gloss black. I'll make sure I let you know how it turns out. I have high hopes but at the same time, it is a little scary.
I will say, if you are ordering the door handle covers, you may be disappointed with the fitment. I am which is why I am choosing to wrap them instead. If I don't like them wrapped, I can go ahead and do the paint matched covers like my original plan. If I like them wrapped, I'll probably just sell my covers.
Also, are you completely sold on the 22" rims? I was going back and forth, but it turns out other users said it's better to stick with the 20"s if you live in a place with bad streets (I'm in New Orleans). If you stick with the 22s, please show me a picture of how they come out. I am probably not getting my wheels and tires done until September.

yes, i'm still on the fence with 20" or 22".
I want to fill in the wheelwell as much as possible without dropping it yet. I cant do low profile rubber living in New York, it's not smart. I have 100's of tire sizes written down, hundreds of pics, lol i'm sure you've done the same. it will be a last minute decision.
Just remember if you buy OEM black handles they will more than likely be "brilliant black" which has a pearl look to it, and may look a little goofy if everything else is standard gloss black. Correct me if I'm wrong on that statement if there are standard gloss black OEM handles out there (not covers).
I believe you are right from what I saw. The color match handles are not only expensive, but the installation is beyond something I would personally feel comfortable with (mainly the front two).
If you're concerned about damage or a low profile tire, your best bet is to stay with a 20" wheel. I'd suggest either 285/50/20 or 295/45/20 for the tire size.
yes, I have those #'s with a star next to them lol
my issue is I think the Tokyo rim in a 22" looks nicer with the extra 2", I cant find a photo of a 20" 0n the jeep, not sure if the spokes will look too small.
ok cool, i'll get the oem parts, i'm pretty sure I can use overland or altitude.
I sit in traffic all day, at dinner, at the bar, on my couch, laying in bed, thinking about wheel sizes lol
going to start ordering the parts tomorrow after going over the black or color match decision all day today as the list has changed 4 times this week already. lol

I got those from ebay and had them painted and they turned out perfect and look perfect compared to the chrome, plus saved allot of money! Also blacked out almost everything like logos etc with oem pieces
I have the 5 piece set and it has been pretty useful. Might need to order a new set soon, wore mine down from the prior de-chroming project on the '15 Limited
That lower front fascia is somewhat of a pain in the ass to swap out, I did it a few months ago...be very patient and try not to break any of the tabs that hold it together, there are a TON of them.
well, I "got a guy" that's going to help me,
he has a shop so we can put the jeep on a lift, maybe it will be easier. I will be doing the fog light bezels and grill also so maybe we'll just take the bumper off. I saw there was a video on that. those plastic tools will help also i'm guessing. when I did this 10 yrs ago it was all cut up hands and metal screwdrivers with rags, praying you didn't scratch the paint lol
I finally realized why I couldn't find the lower front fascia...all the pictures I was looking at of fascia's, have it upside down. so I just kept passing it up thinking that wasn't the one I need, it's a different style lol
so the OEM chrome honeycomb grill inserts are $175 from mopar, $198 from another mopar site... but the knockoffs are $37 on ebay. that's a big difference. the grill rings also are a big difference. it only seems logical to get the knockoffs on ebay and save a couple of hundred dollars
why are there different official mopar sites with different prices? allmopar, moparonline, ect...very confusing. I don't know who to buy what from?
The honeycomb inserts, you could never tell if you had oem or knock offs from eBay. I had a black pair from eBay and they fit flawlessly in my Limited.
Some people on the forums have gotten the knock off black rings, and they look pretty crappy. Some fairly noticeable gaps can be seen. I'd personally go oem for the rings.
Mopoaronlineparts and Quirkparts are 2 of the better priced places...there is another one called Tasca that has decent pricing too. Their pricing is probably different based on inventory and turn around, the more they sell the cheaper they can list them for.
I've personally purchased everything from Moparonlineparts, great service and quick shipping.
Rockauto is another option but they typically sell off-brand products so I've never really considered them.
not your fault, it's all in the process lol
apparently it seems just some front end parts were changed, the grille & fog lights. but the lower front fascia is still the same, & handles and mirror covers are good.
so it seems the 2017 front fascia was changed also...so i'll be sending that back lol they did a straighter lined fascia for the 17. first pic is the 17.
last pic is a 16 on left, 17 on right
so the 2017 Limited doesn't have the smiley face look anymore, now with a straighter more bulkier nose, streamlined headlights without the chrome strip, narrower fog light bezels, a black inner grille, & not solid in between the grille rings anymore, but with an open pattern in between each honeycomb insert, & the lower fascia has straighter lines. interesting. I prefer the straighter non smile look. even though I had to change my whole front end parts list again...
2017 is the first pic...2014-16 is second pic....
I know I am prejudiced since I own a '15, but, for me, I prefer the pre '17 front end. As said, the '17 appears to be too bulky for me and I'm not sure how I feel about the "busier" grill inserts either. I suppose I have to see them up close as I haven't run into any yet.
this is a 2017 altitude. it looks like i'll color match the surround black grill and the inserts, & put the black trim rings on for the silver billet. it's now a 4 piece grille. I don't like the new surround trim of the grill in black.
so I spoke with just for jeeps this morning. extremly helpful and knowledgable. I ordered the new 2017 grille, and it's actually a 4 part grille. ordered the 2017 lower fascia also, in the black textured for $55, since the smooth unpainted fascia is $400+. no idea why that is...& the unpainted black fog light bezels that were only $50 for the pair...
so a productive day so far.
Sounds like you just bought the chrome grill but I was going to suggest you check the 'for sale' section of this forum. A lot of people are still looking to black out their Jeep so the chrome grills come up for sale quite often. I got mine from another member a couple years ago.
Looking forward to seeing pictures when your Jeep arrives!
I just ordered up a bunch of SEM Trim Black Euro Jet paint to start my de-chroming process in a few months. Ended up getting satin (for all textured black plastic), gloss, and "charcoal metallic" paint. Debating what's going to be charcoal and what's going to be gloss black with all the chrome now.
I was thinking instead of gloss black, using flat black for the mirrors, handles, jeep tailgate emblem, & maybe the taillight bezel trim, to go with the stock black trim on the limited. then I would have to do the window trim that color also I guess.
Yeah, I just need to visualize what I'm going to do. So far I'm planning to do the window trim and aluminum portion of the roof rails in charcoal, mirrors and door handles will be gloss black.
My real debate comes on the front and back end. I'm either doing charcoal grille rings and fog bezels with the black honeycomb grille, or plan to do the reverse with gloss/satin black rings and fog bezels, but paint the honeycomb grille inserts charcoal. Tail light bezels are same boat, either gloss/satin black or charcoal.
