I wish I had put the 3m film on my chrome mirror caps. I've a few chips on both mirrors.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

As long as you use a quality film and have it professionally done (unless you really know what your doing), the clear bra will not discolor and it will look perfect for many years. Well worth it!

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

Thought I'd bump this to see if anyone else had some opinions. I'm thinking about getting one myself once I get my WK2, but I want to make sure it's worth the cost and there are no major downsides to it.

Does anyone who got it regret getting it, or anyone who didn't get one regret not doing so? Does it leave a lot of areas exposed that end up getting chipped or road-rashed anyway? If it gets hit by a pebble or something does the damage (if any) to the plastic look just as obvious as if it would look on the paint? Does it cover the black plastic parts like on the lower bumper area and on the outer part of the wheel well "outline"? Is this my last question? Yes.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

I did not get one on he Jeep and don't regret not getting it. We have a few chips, but I've touched them up And on the dark color you can't tell from 3+ feet away. That, and it does seem to resist chipping better because of the height.

However...I've had a new Lexus GS350 for about 3 weeks and 1500 miles and I have a few on that, very minor but its silver and I underestimated how badly even minor little marks show. I'm talking to some installers about having one put on that.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

I had a clear bra on my previous Nissan Maxima because the paint chipped easily. The silver paint on my JGC holds up much better and after 6 months I do not have a single chip. Amazing.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

I got the Xpel clear bra installed on my new WK2 as soon as possible. Decided to just do the front bumper and painted side mirrors because I have black and didn't want the film lines showing on the hood and sides. It does not cover the lower bumper area. Xpel is "self healing" so any marks are not supposed to remain and if you use a quality product it will never yellow. So far I’m very happy with it and the cost was about $350.

You can't tell the bra is there unless you look real close at the seams of the bumper and around the fog light openings. I bought a new Camaro in 2009 and by the time I sold it in 2012 the lower bumper was riddled with small paint chips. I know the Camaro was lower to the ground but getting paint chips is almost inevitable with all the stuff they put on the roads during the winter. A clear bra is now a must for any new car I get.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

Silver here and the only chip on the bumper was a large rock and that would probably have gone through a bra.

Wife has a 3M brand one on her BMW 328 which is obviously much lower. Plus she tends to follow closer. Dealer installed option for $1000 and warranted for 5 years. She hit a tire skin and it put a huge black streak on the bra. I used windex, then paint thinner to clean most of it off before she brought it it, didn't want to go more aggressive unless I had too. They tried to clean it more but wouldn't replace it. So in less than 5 seconds I wiped it off with acetone, then rinsed it with water, no damage to the bra at all. The product is better than the dealer's service or warranty.

I found large decals on curved surfaces impossible to put on right. Even 3M brand which is the best. A DIY option may be to use clear plasti-dip. They have a gloss now, apparently.

I had a clear bra put on. Manufacture was 3M. I paid 610 for the entire front and bikini cut on the quarter oanels and hood. It is something I didnt do with my previous vehicle ajlnd regret it. They even did my headlights, fogs, and grill.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

Just an update to this. I just got back from an 1,100 mile round trip from DC to Albany NY, which included a stint while up there to Lake George. Lots of snowy weather, congested sand and gravel treated highways 80-90MPH along with big trucks throwing all kinds of shit. I thought for sure I'd have a shit ton of rock chips, I know I would have in my Lexuses or previous Toyotas.

Jeep was absolutely filthy, so I couldn't tell. Got it washed today, got back from the carwash and got ready to wipe it down with QD like I always do and spend 2 hours touching up the rock chips. I had none...not one. I was absolutely floored.

Much better quality paint on this than on other cars I've owned.

My new Lexus has 1600 miles and already has 3-4 rock chips. They're touched up and a clear bra is going on that Sunday. So, I'd skip the clear bra on the Jeep.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

Ok...newbie question..what does "bikini cut" mean when talking about paint protection films? I have been looking online for the best price on a kit for the GC and see this term.
Anyone recommend the cheapest place to buy a 3m kit? Or a good installer in Philly/Central Jersey?

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

Tint shops mostly do the 3m. I got it done on my accord for about $550 earlier this year. Had the bumper, half hood, head lights, fog lights, and side mirrors done. It's about as thick as a credit card.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR THROUGH A DRIVE THROUGH CAR WASH AFTER YOU GET IT INSTALLED. It will scratch. Also, you can't claybar the bra. You can only clean it and put more coats of wax on.

Will probably get the bra replaced around 50k miles. I don't know if I'm going to get it done on my Jeep though.

Can't even see it on my car:
