Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

Clear bra is kinda of a must in Colorado with all the stone/rock chips flying around.

I thought for sure I'd have a shit ton of rock chips, I know I would have in my Lexuses or previous Toyotas.

Jeep was absolutely filthy, so I couldn't tell. Got it washed today, got back from the carwash and got ready to wipe it down with QD like I always do and spend 2 hours touching up the rock chips. I had none...not one. I was absolutely floored.

Much better quality paint on this than on other cars I've owned.

My new Lexus has 1600 miles and already has 3-4 rock chips. They're touched up and a clear bra is going on that Sunday. So, I'd skip the clear bra on the Jeep.
Interesting, that's good to know, thanks.

What I think I'll do is get a quote first, obviously. If it ends up being $500+ like I expect, what I might do is wait a little bit and see what happens and base my decision on how quickly I get chips, if any.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

I just had it installed on the Lexus, turned out great. $695 for the leading 24" of the hood, fenders, full bumper, mirrors and headlights.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

I had it installed on my Jeep within a week or two of purchase. Personally, I think the paint jobs on the newer vehicles are not as tough as it used to be. Perhaps, to save weight.

I think it is worth to have a clear bra. I paid $350 and it included the hood (partial), headlights, and front fender. The installer used a scalpel at an angle so that the paint is not damaged when cutting the clear bra.

Cheers,
-A

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

I agree about the paint job on my Lexus, and my previous Lexuses/Toyotas, but I can say with experience the paint on the Jeep is much tougher.

New paint is water based not acrylic that is why it is not as touch.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

For those who got it installed, did you also get the dark gray/black plastic parts on the front fascia covered? I'm wondering if that would be worthwhile to do too...

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

^The clear bra is intended to protect the paint from rocks causing paint chips. The lower plastic is porous and not smooth, so it could make clear bra obvious that it is on, and who knows, maybe not stick as well. It's pointless to put it over the plastic trim. I did and do suggest getting it put over the headlights and foglights and in all 4 handle areas to prevent fingernail and ring scratches.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

I don't think it would even stick on the black plastic trim. It's really for paint.

They install on plastic bumpers and headlights don't know why it wouldn't stick. It's possible that the adhesive is "thicker" to allow for textures.

Think Outside !- No Box Required.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

I've never seen it installed on a plastic bumper, especially not a textured plastic bumper, and I've looked at hundreds of install pics online deciding whether to do it or not.

Headlights are different, they're a glossy finish.

Plus, it would make the matte trim glossy, and it wouldn't match the rest of the trim.
