The vinyl is available in a matter finish also...I am currently looking into starting a business that does this and have been doing a bunch of research...it does get installed on textured plastic, probably not as often but it does.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

I just don't want people thinking they can do what you're talking about, because they can't. There's nobody out there installing "matte film on top of textured black plastic to protect it from fading"

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

Because no installers are even offering such a product or service! I just did a month full of research on this.

Where can we buy the vinyl? Who sells protective vinyl for automotive applications to protect textured black plastic from fading? Links? Articles?

3m ill find the product page...

Edit: the product is 3m Ventureshield I am awaiting an email from them verifying the information in my old brochure is still accurate. When I get it I will post it here whether I'm right or wrong. BTW the 3m paint protection that you can buy at the parts house is just smaller rolls of Ventureshield.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

Uh, no LOL. 3M Ventureshield is what I have on my car. It's a glossy clear bra material with a clear coat, and no UV protection. It's designed for paint, not for textured black plastic.

3M makes two products, Scotchguard and Ventureshield. Ventureshield was actually a competitor that 3M purchased a couple of years ago. Neither 3M product is as you describe.

Whatever no go back to whatever you were doing. It shows right on their page using on bumpers but you're the expert.

Re: Do I need the clear bra or no?

Right...PAINTED bumpers. Read what it says right on their site, I quoted it in my post. ANY PART OF YOUR VEHICLE'S PAINTED SURFACES.

You can't use a clear bra on textured, untainted plastic...nor would there be any purpose, point, or benefit. That's why they call it PAINT protection film. There's no matte finish PPF, and no "UV protective film" for textured black plastic. Just Google, there are novels online about PPF, the options, the different manufacturers, how it's applied, and where. You have no idea what you are talking about, and when you pretend you do it makes the advice given by those of us who do that much less helpful.
