dog crates?

Was wondering if anyone has any nice solutions for a dog crate in their WK2. Specific mfg/models and pictures appreciated.

My dog is 80lbs, FWIW.

These look interesting, for example:

Thanks,

Re: dog crates?

My dog is 60lbs and I have a crate more or less 'permanently' installed in the back. I anchor it down with karabiners at three corners, and have ammo boxes around it to store gear and stuff. Since my dog is smaller, my crate can be a little smaller and there is some room around it for gear, tow hitch ball, etc.

Oh, one key reason I anchor the crate, besides for safety in a rollover, is to keep the crate from sliding rearward and making contact with the rear glass. Especially when 4-wheeling and rough roads.

I'll get measurements and pictures soon and post that here.

Re: dog crates?

I thought about crating my dog in the back, but the crate weighs more than the dog and takes up the entire cargo area. I usually fold down the 60% rear seat and have the dog sit on that with a blanket, with his harness attached to one of the cargo tie downs via a 2-3 foot leash. He's got plenty of room to move around or lay down, but is safe in case of an accident. You could also do the same thing with him in the back cargo area, just attach the leash to the rear tie-down to keep him behind the rear seat.

Re: dog crates?

We originally had a good seatbelt set up in the back seat, but our dog it a complete spaz when he sees other dogs and there are a lot of dogs around here.

One of the benefits of the crates is the limited visibility.

Right now I have the 60% seat folded and an extra large plastic travel kennel in there, but it doesn't fit well and moves around a bit despite being tied to the tiedowns.

I think something better fitting would be nice.

We do something similar; I connected a zip line between the 2 forward tiedowns. Max, 75 Golden Retriever, wears a harness in the GC that has a shortened lead connected to the zip line, he can move around but the harness, lead and zip line keep him put behind the front seats and are strong enough to contain him in heavy braking or accident. Any luggage goes in the rear passenger side under a net. I got the stuff from Kurgo. It has worked well over the past 7 months.

Re: dog crates?

Here's a picture of my dog's crate, 36"L X 21.5"W X 25"H.

It's anchored in with carabiners at three corners. I attach many things onto the crate.

Very cool, even matches your Jeep. Looks like doggie prison.

That's why I have cats, dogs are too much work.

Poor Ranger, he's a bit cramped, being the tall lanky guy he is.
