Re: door handles on 2014 limited

This is a pretty funny post...i traded in my last car, a land rover lr2 because every little thing was increibly expensive to fix, down to the windshield wipers. First thing that happens to my GC Limited (chrome mirrors)..a goose walking across the parkway decides to take off, flying into the passeneger sideview mirror, shearing it right off the car. I was charged $600 to replace it, with labor, all bc it was the "special chrome sideview" according to the dealer. So much for getting a low maintenance car....

Re: door handles on 2014 limited

I have a 12 laredo and I found someone selling used chrome OEM door handle on ebay for about $125 for the full set.

I replaced them my self which was not that difficult

MOPAR has been adjusting the prices on their parts steadily upwards so the price on the door handle have gone up too. Door handle are not specific to the SRT8 so the price the dealer is quoting you was just for the color matched parts.

Another option is getting some at a salvage yard and have a body shop replace them.

As far as the warranty goes once the part does not match the build sheet it would be hard for the dealer to honor the warranty.

Yes you are correct, I figured that maybe everything would cost me around $500 from the dealer but I cannot justify $1200+ for color matched handles. I did search around the web for salvaged but could not find anything close to me, what I will probably do is cover or DIP the handles and when the warranty expires I will revisit the possibilty of color matched. Or just leave it alone

Thanks for your input.

Re: door handles on 2014 limited

I've been quoted $300 to have my handles and mirrors vinyl wrapped gloss black. I'm going to go that route as I'm in the same boat regarding not wanting to spend $1k+ for paint matched handles.

Please let me know how it works out for you and how you like it after it's done, pictures of the finished job would be awsome if you can. I contacted an xpel installer locally and he sounded like a really good guy, he said he would and has done allot of vinyl wraping on chrome pieces for european cars.

I'll definitely take some before and after pictures.

Re: door handles on 2014 limited

FWIW, I replaced the handles on my '12 and paid about $400 for the set of handles and about $150 for the install. Much more than I wanted to spend, but didn't know of another option to rid myself of the chrome handles, and was concerned about the durability of paint when you're grabbing them daily. Was determined to do the install myself, but ran into issues when I got the door panel off, so decided to take it my trusted body shop instead.

I did have my mirror caps painted over a year ago and they still look great, and you'd never know they weren't stock.

Didn't know the handles could be vinyl wrapped, and might have considered it if the price was right and I trusted the work. First time I saw wrapped handles was on Duc's Jeep, and it looks pretty damn nice. Last page of his build thread has a picture. May want to reach out to him if interested...
