Door panels

As I was applying Meguiars Natural Shine Protectant (MeguiarsDirect.com:Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant - 16 oz. Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant - 16 oz.) to the black interior plastic trim (dash, door panels, center console, etc..) of my Limited, I avoided the armrests since it appears to be leather (or is it vinyl?) and would rather apply a leather conditioner instead. Anyone know if the armrests and the area on the door panels are leather?

Re: Door panels

I haven't been in a '14 yet, but I'd bet they are vinyl. Even if they claim to be leather, they are finished (vinyl-coated) leather, and not natural leather. You could use the Megs protectant either way.

Explained here:

It's likely treated leather, basically painted leather. No need for a protectant, just wipe down with damp cloth.

Thanks. The armrests at least don't appear to be leather, unlike the steering wheel which is. Would applying vinyl protectant on the leather steering wheel be harmful?

Thanks for the link. I just read the article. Very interesting. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow with water droplets?

Thanks for posting this. I am always amazed by how much time and money people spend putting leather conditioner on plastic-coated leather...when the conditioner never gets anywhere near the leather.

Re: Door panels

There's not much "real - natural" leather out there. Something like the Ford King Ranch, Ram Laramie Longhorn comes to mind? Maybe the Summits (I have not been in one)? I know the leather on my Laredo X is far from it. It feels/looks much more plasticy than the Bridge of Weir leather on my Lincoln did.

You probably could use the Megs on your steering wheel, but make sure it's not too greasy/slippery. If your Walmart carries Surf City products, try Dash Away. It leaves 0 residue/shine. It's my favorite interior cleaner/protectant. I prefer it over 303 any day.
